Field greeted us at the door. Our room was spotless and ready when we arrived. He explained where to park, provided us with materials on Saratoga. He lives in a quiet neighborhood close to Skidmore, about a five-minute car ride from the City Center. His exceedingly orderly and clean house is appointed with interesting antiques.
Excellent communication despite some challenges. Description of the accommodations was accurate. Nice neighborhood. Simple, serve yourself breakfast was much appreciated. Field is a very conscientious host with attention to details that made for a very comfortable and enjoyable stay!
Beyond ideal location, pleasing design, relaxing comforts and pristine cleanliness, we enjoyed Walton Grove Cottage’s genuinely welcoming ambiance. The calmly capable host treated us as honored guests, offering the comforts of his lovely home and expert, personalized advice on how best to enjoy Saratoga. Field was kind and thoughtful, anticipating our needs and always available if we asked anything, but never intrusive.
Our room and bath were clean, quiet, nicely decorated, and spacious yet cozy. The bed was luxuriously comfortable, the rain shower was delightful, the soft carpeting soothing, and the abundant art and antiques interesting and grounding. Modern conveniences included (free) wifi and an in-room thermostat.
We were pleasantly surprised to learn that a simply perfect breakfast was included, providing an excellent start on New Year's Day with superb coffee and the flaky deliciousness of local croissants (Mrs. London's!) in the sunny kitchen.
A friend and I stayed at the Walton Grove Cottage for New Years Eve and had a wonderful time. Field was very accommodating and the house was just as described. Location was also perfect, a few minute walk to downtown!
Really enjoyed staying in this historic home. Field was very welcoming. Bed was a twin but slept great. Shared bath but since I was the only guest, had it to myself. Came and went to my own schedule and Field was very helpful with restaurant recommendations, etc. Lots of convenient outlets for electronics. Note: Field does not use texting, so email or phone is best for communicating.
Field was a diligent, attentive, and compassionate host. Helped carry my bags, steered me to a place to eat right away. By the way, he literally WROTE THE BOOK on what to do in Saratoga, so all of his restaurant recommendations were incredible. The house itself is beautiful, the artwork is intriguing and varied. The shower was antique tile. The shower head was a rainfall shower. The bed was cozy. The Internet was easy to access. Field set out delicious granola and coffee for breakfast and let me use the fridge for my leftovers. Intriguing, well designed books were strewn about the house. I wish I had this guys knack for decor. An exemplary human, a beautiful home.
Everything was just as described. Beautiful, comfortable and quiet.
Field's Cottage was a great place to stay for parent's weekend at Skidmore. Field was good at communicating and met us as agreed. The room had everything we needed and we loved having a private bath. So close to the college as well.
I echo every single positive comment made by other guests vis-a-vis Field's home, hospitality, helpfulness, the comfort and charm of the room itself, and the overall beauty and impeccable cleanliness of his home. I stayed for 3 nights and couldn't have asked for more perfect lodging. Thank you, Field, and I will definitely be back!
We had a very nice stay at the Walton Grove Cottage. The location is wonderful. We're walkers, so it was nice to be able to head out on foot for dinner. The main part of town is easy to find and reached in under a mile. The neighborhoods around this home are fantastic! Interesting architecture and gardens, and many were decorated for Fall when we stayed. Field greeted us when we arrived, showed us the house, and left us to our own devices. It really was like showing up to stay with a cousin - a family home to come to in a fun town. Field has a nice relationship with his neighbors, and he makes a point of telling his guests to please be respectful when coming and going - make sure not to block driveways or walk ways when parking. Also, when you're out walking around try to keep your conversation at a conversational level - I know I appreciate this in my own neighborhood! About our room: we had a very nice desk, a comfortable chair and queen sized bed, and a bathroom to ourselves. I couldn't have asked for more. Field asked if we'd like coffee in the morning, and it was ready when we went down stairs. He also offered cereal and milk, but we wanted to go out for breakfast. I do wish we would have been able to stay two nights - I would have loved to sit and read the paper in the fantastic living room, or drink wine on the 3 season porch!
