Sandra was an amazing hostess, and the grounds were beautiful. Lovely to have a cup of hot coffee and homemade treats on the back stoop in the morning, watching the horses graze and listen to the birds chirp. I will add that Sandra was incredibly considerate with my dietary restriction (no dairy) - she customized recipes to that limitation - incredible service! Thanks again, Sandra!
If you love historic homes than I think you would love this place. It has a ton of charm. Sandra (the owner) was pleasant and knowledgeable about the town and places to go. Because it is as historic (1700's) as it is you will hear creaks and noise very easily. I think this is part of the charm of the older homes. My wife loved the giant tub! Overall It's a great place to stay to explore an amazing part of CT.
The Red Barn is one of the most charming and comfortable places I've stayed. My dog and cat and I stayed in the Barn for one month in late fall and loved our time there. My dog Wilson fell in love with Sandra and Jim's dog Kelly; and I'm sure he still misses playing with her. The hosts were friendly and unintrusive during my stay and I had the pleasure of chatting with Sandra often while our dogs were playing. The property and town are beautiful -- quiet with a secluded atmosphere, but everything you need is close and getting onto I-95 to visit Mystic or Providence is easy. The Barn itself was easy to immediately settle into while busy with work and I appreciated that. Everything was clean on arrival and Sandra gave me a quick walkthrough. The kitchen is fantastic! I'll miss cooking on that stove! I stayed alone, but there is plenty of place for a group/family to be just as comfortable. Highly recommend a stay here!
We enjoyed our stay very much, the room, the bathroom , the fireplace, the suroundings and specially we enjoyed Sandra's hospitality.
Hope to see you again.
Great, quiet, relaxing space! Loved the little library sitting room & porch area. Room was wonderful - spacious, well furnished & appointed, including a handy, small fridge; fireplace was a sweet touch; huge bathroom with a fantastic claw foot whirlpool. (Room was named which I can't recall but it was the Top of stairs diagonally on right at back of house)
Overall a wonderful historic little spot, well maintained & decorated as such. Rooms were clean & ready as promised. Innkeepers were there whenever needed, unintrusive when not and very accommodating to our arrival arrangements. Thanks for a great stay!
Historic New England home with so much character. The location is both convenient and very peaceful. The classic winding country roads have stone walls, farms, and woods. Character and comfort at a reasonable rate and Sandra was thoughtful with suggestions.
We spent a very lovely night in Sandra and Jim's house. The property (inside and outside) and surroundings are very enjoyable and Sandra was a very good host (the breakfast muffins were delicious). The room was clean and tidy and had a very nice colonial feel to it.
the inn is charming, quaint..off the beaten track..quiet and romantic!
a nice bike ride to town..very nice people!..they even have rescue horses!..a lovely piece of land..for a lovely piece of mind!..
My Husband and I stayed at Second Penny Inn over Labor Day and had a fabulous time. The room was clean, bed was comfortable, and the shower pressure was great. Sandra went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we need. She even let us borrow a picnic basket with dishes to take to the beach! Each morning she made a delicious breakfast and was sensitive to my vegetarian lactose-intolerant diet. I would stay at Second Penny Inn again without hesitation.
Thanks again, Sandra.
Second Penny Inn was a delight to stay at. A beautiful old home with lots of history set against a quiet, wooded backdrop. Sandra was a great host, with attention to all the details that make a B and B stay relaxing. Make sure you opt in for the full breakfast, which was absolutely delicious! Thanks Sandra!
