Jim & Becky,
Everything was great and the house lived up to its name. On Friday morning we were lucky enough to see three whales pass by the house fairly close in. We immediately ran across the street and followed them for a short while. That being said, the house was everything we hoped for.

Jim was a great host and was very knowledgeable of the island. He left us some helpful tips on fun and local things to do. The house was very comfortable and clean.
Jim met us at the house when we arrived and gave us a tour and all sorts of tips and information about the neighborhood and local area. It was truly wonderful as he got us on the right track immediately. He had all sorts of recommendations of things to experience and places to shop/eat/etc and we really made use of that information. The house is in a friendly neighborhood with a great view of the ocean from the lanai, which we made great use of as it rained during some part of every day. Jim provides everything you need to have a wonderful visit from all sorts of sports equipment to everything you need for cooking. The house is light and tropical and really adds to your island experience. We were traveling with another couple and we had plenty of space for the four of us to relax.
Staying at the Whale House was great. The house is very spacious, clean, nicely decorated and offers ocean-view. Exactly as described in the advertisement. Upon arrival, Jim took time to show us everything. He gave us valuable tips on what to do in the area. In addition, we have received interesting background information about the region. We would not hesitate to come back here again.
We were very warm welcomed by Jim in his House! He gave us a massive amount of explanations and recommendations for lovely places to see, trail, eat and relax, which we appreciated very much. The House is wonderful, very spacious, very good beds, and of course only 20meters to the coast! Amazing! Even Jim provided us with snorkels and beachboards! Thank you for a wonderful stay!
The Whale House was a great first introduction to the Big Island. We got in late and Jim stayed up and met us, and gave us a very thorough overview of the island and the house rules/binders. The house was well stocked, and very comfortable. It is worth highlighting that there was no A/C, however, the quality and placement of windows and fans makes this mostly a non-issue. The only letdown with the house was that the house actually sits across a small road from the ocean, and the ocean view from the lanai is partially obscured by power lines (neither was clear in the description or pictures). Overall though, we would highly recommemd the house to those families looking to get away from the urban cores for their Hawaii vacations. Super peaceful and relaxing!
Thank you Jim for all your pièce of advice
The house is beautiful and we were very glad
to be here
The house is very big and bright
We really enjoyed our stay at the Whale House! Jim was at the house when we arrived and could not have been more welcoming and helpful. He knows the island very well and gave us good tips about things to see - and what might not be worth the effort. The house was clean and well stocked with all the essentials. The kitchen is well supplied for all cooking needs. Grocery stores are fairly close - within 15 minute drive. The house is situated across a quiet street from the ocean and you can walk a short trail over to the cliffs overlooking the ocean. The neighborhood is beautiful - nice houses, flowering shrubs, empty lots with wild flowers and jungle growth. The whole area is build on 400 year old lave flows making the ground impenetrable. Thus phone lines are visible and water is collected from roofs in big cisterns. The filtration system is great so the water is fine at the Whale House - not to worry. The house - like most in the area - is not air conditioned, but the living quarters are on the second floor so the breeze and ceiling fans keep it cool at night. It can get stuffy in the afternoons. Having dinner on the wide front porch listening to the waves and the coqui frogs was great! We highly recommend the Whale House!
The Whale House is everything it is advertised as. Spacious, comfortable, abundant amenities, and outstanding views! The famous Binder is a fantastic resource. The garage is stocked with kayaks, bikes, swim toys, and more -- we didn't even get to avail ourselves of these but next time we will! 5 days is not enough time in the Hilo area of the Big Island. I hope I can get back there while I'm still fit!
My wife, daughter and I spent 5 nights at the Whale House. The house is in wonderful condition, very spacious and in a very good neighborhood. Jim met us and gave lots of useful advice on things to see and do. We had a great stay and recommend the Whale House.
