We are two doctors that used to live in the heart of in London. We discovered Airbnb travelling in 2011. It was a fabulous way to see some great cities and meet some lovely people. We decided to start hosting via our spare room and it grew from that. We have a couple of flats in London that we lived in previously and that are just great places to live. They are centrally located right next to Underground stations. As people that have lived and worked in London for a very long time, the location is always the most important thing. The flats are ideally located with very short walks to the stations. The first flat we ever hosted from was our flat in Old Street, its a gorgeous large flat that has all the mod cons you would need. The flat is amazingly located in zone 1 in the shoreditch area. Our flat is outside Old Street Station on the Northern line, you cannot get closer to a tube station than we are. There are buses outside the door to most of east and central London. Old St carries on past Farringdon to become Oxford St so you can walk to Oxford Circus in about 40 minutes, the bus will take about 15-20 minutes. This is one of the trendiest places in London right now with a full range of bars and clubs, arts and everything you can imagine. We live on the fifth floor of a gorgeous old London Red Brick Building, and therefore you are in the heart of London and yet are not disturbed by the hustle of the city below.
The second apartment is right next Euston station, a very short walk to Kings Cross and St Pancras. This area is just between the trendy Camden and the University district of Bloomsbury. Its an absolutely gorgeous area full of interesting cultural places like the British Museum and the British Library, and yet a short distance from the fun and culture of Camden.
We have tried to combine the best aspects of our travel experiences in our apartments. They are our homes so we try and make them feel like that, but we also like to have all the ease of modern living. So you will see that the apartments have everything you will need for either a short stay or a longer stay. We have a regular cleaner that comes in once a week during prolonged stays to clean the apartments and take away the hassle. We have also learnt that check ins are best done professionally. The reason we found is that most people getting off a long flight, with baggage etc want the ease of just turning up and checking in. They value that far more than waiting for one of us to be there to welcome them. Therefore we will usually use Hostmaker which is a London based check in company that will meet you at whatever time we agree. So check ins really do go very smoothly because this is what they specialise in.
We are always available, and have some interesting experiences of solving guest problems at funny times. We really don't mind and so are available most of the time via phone, (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), sms or FaceTime as well as in person if needed. Most guests actually like having a degree of privacy. Often at the beginning of the stay we will have a discussion about the surrounding area, where the best places to eat are, transport links etc. After that guests can interact with us as much or as little as they like. We hated overbearing hosts when we travelled so we try our best not to be that.
We have traveled a lot and know how much value there is in getting a personal service from people you can rely on. So if this is what you are looking for, then this will be ideal for you.
