This was our second time in Kyle's home and it was a magical experience yet again. I've never felt so at home in a place that isn't my own. From the Bay Area, we visited Boonville to enjoy some local brews and then to Fort Bragg to buy our groceries at the lovely Harvest Market to pick up some amazing local fish and produce. Extremely well stocked and thought out kitchen. Books galore (no need to bring any). Stunning views, clean and fully functioning hot tub and bbq, and lots of great walks to nearby quiet beaches. We never got tired of looking at the artwork and kept seeing new things that inspired lots of laughter and conversation. We will never look at whales the same way! A few little things to note: poor wifi and no phone service (but this was actually a blessing for us), and the shower stall was a little short and cramped for my tall man. All that said, we are planning to return again soon for a longer stay and can't wait!
everything was great. amazing views from the house, fully stocked with everything we needed (and more). Kyle was super helpful and hospitable throughout (even though we never saw him!)
I find it hard to know where to begin this review, as the experience was fantastic and unique in every facet of the stay. The location is simply beautiful! The stunning views of the Pacific Ocean out the kitchen, bedroom, and from the deck kept us memorized for hours. Westport itself is a charming community, and the general store has a wide range of items, as well as great fresh pizza. Kyle had everything set for us when we arrived, including a great bottle of wine and some local chocolate. The house itself is so cosy, we wished we would have had more time to spend there. The art work both inside and outside of the home inspires and lifts the soul, while also providing interesting insights into everyday life experiences. We were excited to be part of Kyle's ongoing art project. We didn't watch any TV while we were there, and you really don't need to as there is plenty to see inside and outside the home. Being able to use the Ipod with Kyle's reciever to tune in a local radio station was a great extra. There was even a laptop left just in case we had trouble getting the WiFi signal. Everyday we found new art objects that caused us to smile. The bed in the back bedroom was very comfortable, with nice bedding. The kitchen was well supplied with necessary pots, pans, etc. The hot tub on the deck is a great bonus, and we spent lots of time there watching for whales during the day, or watching the thousands of stars at night. We managed to get to two of the beaches Kyle recommended, and saw sea lions (or seals) at each beach. The only downside of the stay was that we didn't get to spend enought time there. If and when we get back to Westport, we would love to spend a longer stretch of time at the Artist's Ocean Retreat.
Kyle's artistic retreat is exactly what I needed to set my city soul right again. As an East Coast transplant, I try to explore as much of Northern California as I can and Westport is an unexpected hidden gem. Hot tub, fireplace in every room, fire pit, yard, art studio (perfect for a book and a nap), ocean views..this home has everything. Even though we didn't get to meet Kyle in person, he was so warm, welcoming, and only a phone call away. We will be back soon!
A friend and I rented Kyle's house for a few days over New Years and could not have asked for a better way to welcome 2015. The wine and chocolate left to greet us aside, this place is a creative pocket of life reimagined. We saw well over 100 grey whales from the deck, shooting stars from the hot tub, and sunsets that would make your mama cry. We initially thought the whale house would be a landing spot for us to explore the surrounding area, and while we did do a bit of site seeing, we found ourselves drawn to the house as a wonder in and of itself. If you love whimsy and off-the-beaten path humor, this is the place for you.
My boys and I enjoyed the treasured whale hot spot. Not only was it incredibly comfy your heart and soul are nourished. Eye candy is plentiful with artwork and inspiration. I want to live here but since I live four hours away it will become our new vacation destination. Thank you Kyle!
Kyle was a great host!! The house was very well stocked with all the necessities and clean. We had a wonderful time and the view was absolutely AMAZING!!
Our experience at Kyle's was very unique. Kyle's attention to details was supper sweet & appreciated. Our stay defiantly wasn't boring. Views from his home are beautiful, the hot tub was lovely & the beds are very comfy.
Wow. Where to begin? This place is truly special, and we had an incredible stay in Westport thanks to Kyle's beautiful beach house.
The layout of the house is perfect. Cozy, yet spacious enough to spread out and get comfortable. The views from the back bedroom, kitchen, and deck are nothing short of stunning. The beds are incredibly comfortable, and everything was very CLEAN.
Where the place really shines, however, is the art. Part hilarious, part mysterious, and all unique- The seemingly endless, intense palette of knickknacks, canvases, and collected items shows the creative, hilarious, and brilliant soul of the owner. The only side effect is that you may walk away with a newfound obsession with whales!
You can't help but feel lucky to be in the space that Kyle has created here, and I feel different after being there. I feel inspired. I cannot wait to go back.
We just love staying at Kyles'! My husband asked me what I wanted for my birthday. I said a couple of days at Kyles. Our last stay was during a most pleasant time of the year but I must say every season is a great time to come here. We were there for THE STORM. It was positively beautiful! The Wind and the Ocean, so powerful! The little extra things (chocolates, wine, etc.) that Kyle does really makes you feel welcome. And it was sweet to see my whale drawing on the wall with all of the others. You can spend days just enjoying the art and the humor. May sound weird but we feel like we are part of a strange family that never get to meet but still share something magical.
