I live in Melbourne, Australia. The best city on the planet. But it still does not stop me from visiting other parts of the world. I would regard myself as reasonably well traveled in Europe and Asia. I have been to some pretty amazing places and countries. I have also been lucky enough to see and experience things that with the passage of time will soon no longer exist.
My most memorable travel destination would have to be the 10 days that I spent in Bhutan - utterly amazing and fascinating. For places closer to home I love to visit Ubud in Bali - long before "Eat, Love, and Pray" I have been visiting this wonderful spot for its beauty, spirituality, culture and the Balinese people for many years.
Reading is a passion - I never go anywhere without something to read. I tend to read in themes and don't necessarily have a favorite book. At the moment I have been reading books about 10 - 12th century history of the Languedoc area in France. Prior to that I have been reading books related to the Wars of the roses. Also love to read papers, cook books and where would we be without the occasional trashy novel - particularly on a plane to the next travel experience.
Did someone mention food and wine - well count me in. Particularly Asian fusion - blame this on my Asian travels and the Asian influence on a lot of the cuisine where I love. Melbourne is truly a foodie destination - so we are always spoiled for choice.
Another great thing about Melbourne is that it is also the cultural capital of Australia. I love live entertainment and would go to something "live" at least 2 - 3 times a month - plays, opera, ballet, cabaret and concerts. Also add to the mix going to see movies. Trying to think of a favourite at the moment. I will have to get back to you on that one.
How would my friends describe me as a guest in their house - I hope they would say - respectful, aware of others' physical space, boringly tidy, and also a good companion to have around.
