Unfortunately this is not the review I thought I would be leaving, but our stay was not what was expected. Communication was non existent beforehand. I actually called because we arrived early by mistake and that was the only communication. Heather was nice on the phone, but that was the only time we spoke. When we arrived there was no directions or where to go. Luckily someone was in the driveway and told us where the room was. People came home later and were up chatting but they gave us privacy. In the morning someone was sleeping on the couch in the living room so we felt restricted to our area. We were really excited about the advertised fresh organic juice and optional breakfast and possible massage, but again no one was around. We ended up leaving early because we felt unwelcome. The room itself was fine and had a private bathroom, just didn't feel like it was properly advertised :(
The reservation was canceled 8 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
The place was not quite a retreat; rather, just a house in a neighborhood. The morning sounds of construction and traffic were not relaxing. That part wasn't bad--I just think it's misleading. Regardless, I would not recommend this room. The entire time we were there, the sink was piled high with dirty dishes, and the dishwasher was full We did not know what to do with our coffee cups as the sponge was underneath the pile of dishes. The listing says laundry is available, however; the machines were full of our host's clothes the whole time we were there. The back patio table had greasy food stuck on it. While we were there, a young man (presumably the host's son, from other reviews) came and spent the night on the couch. I did not feel welcome in the living room.
The room looks just like in the pictures and we were welcomed with small details that really made us feel home instantly (filtered water, fresh towels, even eye masks for the night!). While we didn't have more time to spend at the house as we were dashing from one event to another, Heather was happy to make us coffee and tea in the morning. Would certainly recommend anyone to stay there as it's perfectly located for both Montecito and SB and makes for a great stay.
My friend and I stayed at Heather and Julian's place for a weekend while in town for a wedding. The bedroom was clean and the large windows brought in nice light. Heather had some intriguing reads on the bookcase by the bed which were enjoyable to browse. There is not really space to unpack in the closet or dresser as they were filled with clothes so we kept our belongings in our suitcases. It was nice to have a private bathroom right outside the bedroom.
I was disappointed that we didn't get that retreat feel that we were expecting. The first night they had a friend sleeping on the couch and the second day Heather's two sons were over. My friend and I weren't planning on spending much time in the apartment anyway as this was our first time to Santa Barbara and wanted to explore but I didn't feel as comfortable there with the additional guests; I mostly just stayed in the bedroom. Heather did mention when we were leaving that it was rare for this to happen and that usually she doesn't have it available to rent if her sons are there. In the end, it was a safe place to stay, just not the retreat I was looking for that weekend.
Our stay with Heather and Julian was fantastic from the start. Heather was communicative, helpful and considerate. Check in was really smooth and heather accommodated us a little early so that we could make use of her beach items. The room was far better than even pictured. A real little get away up in the hills. Both Heather and Julian wanted us to feel welcome and relaxed. Some of the books in the room and bathroom were really quirky and fun. Heather and Julian have great personalities, its really worth staying with them. They gave us some invaluable advice on where to head for dinner and drinks. Definitely stay here...great coffee, clean and private bathroom and lovely company. Thanks again.
This was truly a retreat in a quiet, safe, and lovely Santa Barbara hillside neighborhood. The house layout makes one feel as though one has the place to oneself, and the hosts have perfect pitch when it comes to balancing welcoming companionship with giving guests their own privacy. A wonderful, comfortable stay--I'll be back.
We really enjoyed our stay with Heather and Julian! I highly recommend the room for anyone who is looking for a comfortable place to stay while exploring Santa Barbara and Ventura County. The room was cozy and peaceful, with a private bathroom. Parking on the street was simple. The neighborhood is situated in the lovely rolling hillsides of Montecito. Downtown Santa Barbara was easily accessible, and we were 30 minutes north of Ventura Harbor. Both Heather and Julian were wonderful with recommending their favorite places to eat as well as offering us delicious coffee in the morning. For a gem of an Airbnb listing, please come here!
Heather was a great host. She ensured we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay as well as lots of suggestions for things to see and do in the area even lending us use of her beach things for the day. The room itself was very nice, private, with lovely view and conveniently located. We enjoyed our brief stay here.
Heather and Julian were kind enough to accommodate me last minute. Both are very friendly and welcoming. And their home is absolutely beautiful! The type of place where I dream to live some day. Thanks guys!
