We are Phoebe and Hedda, sisters from Co. Sligo who now live in Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim. We look after McKenna's, a guest house and artist residence on the Main Street of Manorhamilton.
I had a wonderful stay here. The Parlour is the perfect hybrid of hostel and guesthouse: private rooms but with communal kitchen space and a warm community feel. Hedda and Phoebe are lovely and helpful—they'll offer you something to drink when you arrive, ask if you have everything you need, and suggest activities that might interest you (check out the theatre by the way, it's wonderful!!) This is a nice alternative to the typical Irish B&B experience, especially if you're a younger or more independent traveler, and I found it to be an excellent value as well.
This is simple, but entirely adequate budget accommodation in a beautiful Georgian town house. There is a spacious kitchen for making your own dinner/breakfast, which we didn't use. The room was clean and had a washbasin, which was handy, and a very comfortable bed (great mattress). Hedda, who was a friendly host, gave us an extra blanket and a heater for our room, as it was a cold day. We got a very good night's sleep.
We loved staying at the Hedda and Phoebe's place. The bedroom was comfortable and warm and clean, and the sitting room and kitchen were very nice to lounge in. We were offered a nice cup of proper coffee upon our arrival.
We experienced a warm welcome from the moment we arrived at the "Artist's residence & guest house" - which is located in a beautiful Georgian house in the Main Street of Manor Hamilton. We were immediately given a much appreciated cup of tea & a delicious home made cake.
All the Residents - including Dante the Cat - were friendly & relaxed & we were given a fascinating tour of the talented Artists' Studios & works of art. This is an ideal place to stay if you are interested in art & sculpture.
We were given keys for our room & the front door which was very convenient as we were in & out during the day & evening. We had use of the large drawing room next to our room & we could light a fire in the grate if we liked or we could go downstairs & join the residents around their fire in their sitting room. We were allowed to use the kitchen & could cook & store our food there. There was a choice of 2 bathrooms to use - so no queuing. We liked the fact that we were not called for breakfast & could prepare our own, could stay in the house during the day & did not have to be back before a certain time in the evening. Our room had a new mattress which was very comfortable, a wardrobe, a desk & a sink.
There are lots of pubs in the main street & we would say that "Gurns" was friendly & served good value food. There is a lovely Library & a Supermarket close by. We would highly recommend staying at the "Artist's residence & guest house.
Absolutely recommended ,Friendly, clean Guest. everything went well
