I like to journal in the mornings with my first cup of coffee; Marleen interrupted me while I was mid-sentence wanting my attention, and I simply and very politely asked her to wait a few minutes. When I was done, I immediately took care of her and gave her my full attention. I don't think she has much experience in sharing spaces and perhaps was unprepared for sharing a room with another person -unfortunate, but not something I could have done much about, especially since she did not say anything while she was here.
As to the cleaning fee: I like to keep the place very clean so guests can feel welcome and enjoy the space, so I hire professional cleaners two times a month. The cost to clean this space is $60, and I accept a couple guests a month. I ask for $25 as a partial cleaning fee which is more than fair. In proportion to the small amount I charge for the night it may seem like a large sum, but that is because my nightly rate is very low (even as compared Hostels). The rate is low because it is a small and shared space (although location-wise it is perfect, as nearly all guests have attested) and because I do this mainly to meet travelers and make friends all over the world! I feel that am very upfront in my description about what I offer, and it is up to guests to decide whether it will work for them.
Needless to say, I'm very disappointed that Marleen has left this negative review. I answered *a lot* of questions she had about the area and helped her find directions, lent her my bike, and offered her what I had to drink or eat. She was kinda uppity and demanding as a guest, but I did what I could to make her stay wonderful. It is too bad that she chose this public review venue to air what (I feel) is her own discomfort level with sharing a small space.
