Welcome to Dolphin Bay Cabanas, our eco-conscious waterfront resort.
Join us to experience the natural wonders of the Bocas del Toro Archipelago.
The place had a gas leak at the old refrigerator, which made it difficult for us to stay. Considering the safety and health of my family we decided to move out. The host offered a refund, which is a professional way to handle this situation and it is a plus of the host. I am not sure if the problem is fixed now, but If the host works on fixing the problem with the gas and maintaining the house, the place would be good to stay at, given that, it is beautiful, quiet and Jelle does everything necessary to make guests feel good.
The Dolphin Bay Cabanas are idyllic and the host is wonderful. The rooms are clean, the staff is very friendly and the food is fantastic. I highly recommend this place, but bring bug spray if you are going to enjoy the sunset on the deck (you won't want to miss it). The host was gracious and offered us a trip to town when he was running errands and picked up supplies for us. If you want someplace exotic, quiet, this is for you.
Amazing location! My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights and had a very relaxing time. We were able to use the kayaks and snorkel equipment free of charge which was good fun, definitely recommend trying the traditional kayak it's difficult/funny getting into but once you get used to it it moves quickly. We swam off the jetties, relaxed in hammocks and went for a walk through the gardens/forest (the dogs joined us, they are very friendly). The location is stunning and provides a perfect view of the dolphins in the bay - we saw them three times in the same day. Meals were tasty (breakfast, lunch and dinner), which Jelle and Bianca made (Diana wasn't there). Water taxi with Jelle is $15 per person or private is $20. We took some snacks and drinks to help keep costs down there's a shared fridge you can use. Great value definitely recommend.
WOW---What a great experience! We all (Winona, Brad, Cheyenne & Brian) enjoyed our trip. I (Winona) was celebrating a long battle with breast cancer and what a great place to rest and relax after a long journey with this battle. The food was outstanding! Jelle and Diana made sure that we were comfortable. It was so relaxing to lounge around in the hammocks and enjoy the sounds of nature in the background. The landscape was amazing. The employees from the housekeeper to the groundskeeper were very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our day trips to Red Frog Beach and Bocos del Toro with Jelle and Diana. We also enjoyed our short beautiful water taxi ride to a cute little restaurant (don't remember the name) on the water. Great food that included stoned fired pizza, steaks and outstanding drinks. Our only disappointment is that we spent 3 nights...next year it will be two weeks. Thank you Jelle (Jelly) and Diana for the best vacation ever!
How do I go about explaining my beautiful experience at the Dolphin Bay Cabanas experience in words? It is tough, because I am still feeling the rejuvenation and bliss from my stay with Jelle y Diana - even days after.
Hard work is rewarded by a vacation, but is justified by hosts like Jelle y Diana. Both have such big hearts and stories to accompany, you will feel like you are with them on their adventure.
Everyday was greeted with delicious foods by Diana, family style dinners and exciting stories from Jelle - both of whom will make it their upmost priority that your stay with them is comfortable and relaxing.
The Cabanas were very comfortable and clean, and the jungle botanical gardens that surround the property, was amazing to walk through. So many different plants, flowers and trees - all maintained daily. My girlfriend and I saw horses, monkeys, sloths, dolphins but the animals we made best friends with were the beautiful dogs of our hosts - Estrella, Jasper, Mira and Buddy - all of whom will make sure you will feel at home and that you have friend with you at all times.
We took their Canoes out to the nearby reefs (only about 20 min canoe trip) where we saw colorful corals, starfish and all types of sea life. It was amazing.
The journey to the cabanas is straight forward, as you can call Jelle to pick you up from Bocas Town - or just have a Boat Taxi take you there. It was DEFINITELY worth it to get away from the hype of Bocas Town for a few nights to experience the ambient sounds and views of Dolphin Bay.
Thank you Jelle y Diana, I am excited for our paths to cross again!
Nadir / Patricia. Thank you from both Diana and myself. I believe there is a possibility that our paths will cross again ;-)
What a beautiful and peaceful location!!!
This is the perfect place to relax in a hammock over the water from sunrise to sunset, listening to the waves, birds, and monkeys as you drift off to sleep with a breeze from across the bay. Jelle showed us around the well manicured trails in the forest behind the cabanas with breathtaking views of the surrounding islands. When he's not available, their friendly dogs will accompany you. Diana prepares absolutely amazing meals for breakfast & dinner at a reasonable price. After one bite, you'll want to take every meal from their kitchen. They currently don't provide lunch. So, you might want to bring some food/snacks to get you through the day. Also, their prices for transport are quite good compared to the cost of hiring your own water taxi. They even arranged for a group trip to a neighboring lodge for snorkeling on the reef and an additional day trip out to Zapatilla - great fun with wonderful people!! Jelle and Diana really made our visit memorable and relaxing.
We will never forget this trip!
Drear Michael and JD, It was really pleasant to have had you here for the 4/5 days you stayed. both Diana and myself thought your passing through here was very refreshing and positive !! take care. Jelle and Diana.
We've had a very nice stay at the idyllic Dolphin bay cabanas. Jelle and Diana were both very helpful and friendly, and combined with her great cooking skills it was a lovely stay.
But like Kim mentions; bear in mind that there wil be (quite) some additional costs and due to the remote location there are no real budget options. For example there was no rain water (although asked upfront at Bocas town whether we had to buy water).
Nevertheless it was well worth it :)
Quel lieu sublime !!
Dolphin Bay Cabanas is a truly beautiful location, far away from busy Bocas Town.
A few things to keep in mind when traveling to this remote location:
- The boat ride to DBC is $20 per person, one-way
- The way back is $30 for 2, organised by Diana or Jelle (even though they're going into town anyway)
- Breakfast and dinner is $21 per person per day
- There are few possibilities for lunch, the boat ride to one of these places is also charged a couple dollars
- Bring bug spray and coconut oil ($10), you really need it and it does work
There factors made our stay way more expensive than we expected/hoped and it would have been nice to know this in advance.
In our experience, the airBNB hosts we've had so far had a willingness to help, were welcoming people in their home and giving that little bit extra that makes traveling the AirBNB way special. As a host, we didn't see much of Jelle, he was busy the whole time we were there. He would probably be great at running a professional hotel, but I wonder if AirBNB is the way to go for him. Diana, however, was very kind and welcoming. We really enjoyed her cooking and she kindly took us for a boat ride to see some dolphins before we left. Jelle is the one in charge, and I'm not sure he has the same spirit as Diana does (making the guests feel at home instead of making money), which made staying at DBC a lot less pleasant as we expected from the other reviews.
Staying at the Dolphin Bay Cabbanas was one of the most amazing experience we have ever had. Very private and secluded yet just a few minutes boat ride away from all the activities and Bocas. Jelle and Deana were the most gracious hosts and attentive to every need. Breakfasts and dinners made by Deana were awesome.
We saw the dolphins up close on a boat ride, snorkeled at the nearby reef and took a hike up the island. Everything was perfect. I wish we could just live there! Couldn't be more thankful to Jelle and Deana for opening up their home to us.
Jelle and Diana are a very nice couple and enjoyed the cabin very much.
