Before we flew to Hong Kong on July 7th ( 2014 ), we had been trying hard to contact Mark, the host of the apartment, in order to find out where the apartment unit that we had booked was exactly located but got no reply from him until July 2nd, 5 days before we boarded the flight for Hong Kong ( actually we had to ask a friend of ours in Hong Kong to look for him ). Mark later on told us that he has 9 units with similar layout for rent, and the unit that he gave us wasn’t the one that he had shown on the airbnb’s listing.
When we first got into this apartment unit, we found that it was quite dirty. We had to do quite a bit of cleanup ourselves, such as washroom, shower room (in particular), as well as the counter top & the sink in the “kitchen area”. Also, several items that Mark had listed in airbnb for this apartment unit were actually not there at all, such as wardrobe, extra bed, TV stand, wi-fi, hair dryer, kettle, kitchen utensils ( frying pan, bowls, dishes, chopsticks and stove ). However, Mark was quite nice, as he would bring most of these “missing items” to us within a short period of time when we asked for them. Unfortunately, the “wi-fi” isn’t really a wi-fi at all. It is just a device for internet connection, so it just can hook up with my laptop.
Although the unit was dirty, the bed, bed sheets, and pillows were quite clean. The general layout of the unit was not bad at all. The A/C was working well. We suggest that anybody who would like to book/rent this unit or any unit from Mark should request him to clean the unit well in advance before your arrival and also make sure he has got the wi-fi issue fixed.
Mr Tse is nice n helpful guy, but still not use to reply his email n text message. He gave us an unhappy experience as he didn't answer his email which we sent him day before we arrive Hong Kong. We told him we will arrive late n asked him his exact address. Also what bus from airport should we take be the closest to his flat. He gave us no reply. After we landed Hong Kong, we rang him from the airport free land line service, we got no one answer the phone. It's made us very worry, as it was almost 11pm at night. We don't know where to go for the night. My daughter finally purchase a phone service from the convenience store, then ring Mr Tse again, finally we get in touch with him n gone to the flat. It was cosy, a bit unclean ( I spent HK$20 to buy brush n detergent to clean the toilet up). We found there are no wifi system, so we rang Mr Tse up. It was about ten minutes after he left. He said the system were broken last time, will replace it the next day. He also said will give us a spare key to the flat as we have three people. The next day never happen, we rang n text him got no reply. We didn't see him until the last day to give him back the key.
I never got to stay at Mark's room because he asked me if I could agree to swap to another location and I agreed. The switch was a big mistake because the room he changed me to was hardly insulated where you can hear tearing a piece of paper in the next room. It feels like insulated by cardboard. There were 3-4 rooms inside the unit and ours was one of them.
We got out of that place the second morning and never returned until the 5th night when we returned the key back in order to get our HKD100 deposit for the room keys.
When Mark asked me to do the switch, he claimed that Airbnb system had made a mistake by doubled booked for my period. I did NOT believe that for a moment but he promised me to switch to a place comparable to his place and near the Park Lane Hotel I then agreed to the switch.
Therefore, I am not in a position to comment on Mark's place but if you are asked to switch, don't do it.
Out of total disgust, I did not ask for refund nor did I complain to Mark.
Mark was a very helpful person! I enjoy my stay at the room!
