I'm from McCloud and I like fishing
I had a great stay at the McCloud Mercantile in the Friday George room. The place itself is very cool and full of character. Everything felt brand new, yet still maintained the feel of being from another time. Food options in McCloud are limited, but the included breakfast downstairs was excellent and all the folks were very friendly. Would recommend.
What a charming building Kevin & Darlene have! It was a lovely sight to behold at the end of our road trip.
Darlene is super friendly and chatty and gave us tips for enjoying our stay in McCloud. We stayed in the Railroad Room which was fabulous and would be perfect for a family of four with the double and two single beds. The bathroom is stunning. My wife could not get enough of the old style soaking tub.
We had breakfast in the cafe downstairs. Highly recommended especially since Darlene and Kevin offer a $20 credit towards the breakfast. We hope to be back.
Darlene & Kevin created a very special place there in McCloud! The area around Mt. Shasta is magical to begin with (and you can see the mountain from their hotel) but Darlene & Kevin have managed to add to this by creating a very special atmosphere in their hotel. It almost feels like you are stepping back in time, right into a fairytale, when you set foot into their place! Every room is decorated differently with lots of attention to detail. We very much enjoyed our stay there and we were very comfortable. After a good night's sleep we had an amazing breakfast (included!) at their cafe that is in the bottom of the hotel.
We can't wait to come back and stay at one of their other rooms :)!
This is a great place to stay!!! Our room was awesome. We are definately coming back.
Breakfast was fabulous, also.
Kevin and his wife are great and very helpful.
Thanks, for a great weekend.
Our experience at the Mercantile couldn't have been better. After a long drive from Portland, we arrived late at night to find Kevin had upgraded us to the Miller Suite, a spectacular room with a fireplace, comfy bed, jet tub, and views of Mt Shasta. While the building is about 100 years old, everything has been upgraded and updated, so we were perfectly comfortable. There's a common room where you can sit by the fire and have a glass of wine. They've really thought of everything....you even get a credit towards breakfast in the yummy cafe downstairs. I couldn't recommend this place more highly--definitely worth a little detour if you're in the area.
Kevin and the staff at McCloud Mercantile Hotel were friendly, helpful and went over and beyond for our family of 6. We loved McCloud, the cafe, the hotel, the fires and the Mt. Shasta area. We look forward to our next stay.
We stayed at Kevin's place on our way up to Portland. His place is 9miles off of Highway 5 in the quaint town of McCloud. Unfortunately we arrived late in the day and couldn't see Mount Shasta when we arrived. But... it is right there! Kevin was kind enough to leave an envelope with our key for us. We arrived very tired and our room was very comfortable, nicely lit and warm! Our room was beautifully decorated. If we had to describe it, maybe Arts & Crafts meets Victorian and Modern. And every single one of their rooms is unique! The next morning an amazing breakfast in their beautifully restored cafe was included, huge servings, good coffee and the waitress was very nice! And right before we left we met Kevin and we already talked about our next visit :). Thanks for a very comfortable stay!!
