My husband, nine month old son and I had an amazing time at Vacation Home Maldives with Adhu, Mohammed, Moosa, and the others there, and hope to go back and stay sometime. We were very warmly received, like family, and found Thoddoo an amazing place to visit. If you want to experience the Maldives, rather than a resort, this is the perfect place to go.
We went from Rasdhoo to Thoddoo and then Male. Adhu arranged all of the transportation for us, which was very helpful as the public ferry wasn't working on the day we planned to travel and the ferry back only runs at midnight.
When we arrived we were delighted to find how lovely the place was with a large, clean, air conditioned and well decorated room with a giant bed, and lovely grounds. After we enjoyed our welcome coconuts we were taken to a perfect beach for a swim. The water was crystal blue, the sand perfectly white and there was absolutely no one else on the beach. Amazing!
The dinner that night (and all of the subsequent meals) was large and delicious.
The next day Adhu toured us around the town of Thoddo and then gave us a fruit and vegetable tour. We learned a lot about the Maldivian way of life and met many people. The people were all very friendly and Adhu's very good English helped us to interact in a meaningful way.
If you are planning to go to Thoddoo leave behind your strappy and short summer dresses. Out of respect, I found that I was most comfortable wearing long pants and skirts and long sleeved, high necked shirts. That also helped with the one annoyance, which was mosquitos. At the beach I wore a regular bathing suit. Since there was basically no one else there that felt fine. You should also know that there is no alcohol allowed on the inhabited islands. This was not an issue for us, but good to know.
