I'm from France and I live for 2 years in Big Island.
I like the scuba diving, the reading, the photography, the nature, ...
Our stay at this roomy house/studio was very nice. It was clean and comfortable and there is no neighborhood near to the house...only a few sheeps ;) so it was very quiet and isolated.
The air in and outside of the house was very damp (it is in the wood...). So it was difficult to dry our clothes and towels.
The little terrace and the big yard is so great!!
I think it is more comfortable when you have a 4 wheel drive car...the way to the house is a little bit steep and hilly.
We enjoyed our stay! Thank you Myriam!
Of our three places on Hawaii, this was our least favorite, and least expensive at the nightly rate. The location is convenient for South Kona: wonderfully quiet and the drive is fine! The rooms were a bit musty, and in general not that well put together. The kitchen was hard to cook in, not well appointed - we had to ask for a spatula in order to flip our fish on the grill and were promptly given a flimsy, plastic one. It's not really ready to go as far as cooking. Check what's there first, then plan your menu.
Snorkel gear was provided, but not fins. You can rent those. Got a deal from their dive shop. No beach towels. Nothing extra. Just the basics. Not really anyplace to sit comfortably inside beyond 2, but a great deck with picnic table not shown in pictures.
We had a great stay at Myriam's cottage in Captain Cook! It was centrally located for the things we wanted to do and see during our stay (Volcanoes National Park, Kailua-Kona, South Point, etc.). The cottage itself was cute - very simple and a great place to come back to after a long day of sight-seeing. It was chill and very private - in fact, we only saw one other person on the farm during our Friday-Tuesday stay. The other reviewers were correct in that the road up to the farm is long and slightly intimidating the first time up (I would recommend driving up first during daylight hours to check it out) but after that, it was no big deal. We didn't spend a lot of time at the cottage, however there were plenty of cooking supplies, a bbq and an outdoor table for those interested in cooking and eating there. We didn't get the chance to rent the snorkeling gear or go on a manta ray tour with Myriam but I think it's really cool that she gives guests that opportunity. All in all, we had an excellent time and would be interested in returning the next time we are on Hawai'i Island.
Great location to access the captain cook area and the whole Kona coast. Since the place is at higher altitude the temperature is nicely cooler and moderate. The place is rustic but worth the price.
We had a great stay! Myriam and Alain were terrific. We arrived at the house late at night and everything was waiting for us just as Myriam had described. Also, Alain stopped by to make sure everything was right and asked if we needed anything. We stayed for 3 nights and really enjoyed the space. It was awesome to be up on the mountain/hill.
We also went on a Manta Ray snorkeling tour with Myriam and Alain. It was awesome! I would definitely recommend it!
We would certainly stay again. Thanks so much!
Great secluded spot. Peacocks, oranges, avocados, lemons. Couldn't have enjoyed our stay more!
The reservation was canceled the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.
The house on the Organic Farm was very roomy. The bed was very comfortable. Everything was very clean but basic. When planning your check in time for the Organic Farm we would advise that you arrive during daylight hours. The road is very narrow and has a variety of surfaces. Myriam was very pleasant and always available when we had questions.
A perfect stay in Myriam and Alain's place! The cottage is very quiet and relaxing, the location is very good to visit Big Island! Very well furnished cottage. Myriam and her husband are truly welcoming people who helped us in everything we needed. You can also eat organic oranges and avocados, at your disposal on the trees! If we come back to Big Island we would love to stay there again!
Myriam and her husband are very nice people, who readily share their fruit, diving knowledge, and diving equipment. They quickly responded to specific requests for cooking equipment or other needs. On a clear night, the stars are beautiful, but being at a higher eleveation, there is more rain than at sea-level.
However, the lodging is at the end of a mile-long, one-lane road, unpaved in places. The apartment is not completely furnished (no real table to eat on), and is surrounded by construction debris. The neighborhood, as noted, has numerous "no trespassing" signs, making it impossible to even take a walk. We found the feral cats intrusive. If you are looking for an isolated, rural setting and do not mind the very rough road or partially furnished cottage, this might work for you. We would not consider it again, and would not recommend it to anyone who is expecting a complete vacation rental. The cottage, while spacious, would be better suited to a local resident, but not at the near-Honolulu rates we paid.
