The host was not there, his workers (maid and garden boy) run the airbnb.
There were no lights in the bedrooms when we arrived. When we asked for this to be fixed, it took 2 days to get light in one bedroom; the second bedroom did not have working lights the whole time we were there (7 nights).
Water ran out one night. When I contacted the host and his maid about this, I was told to wake up the garden boy to pump water - it was 1130pm. The maid subsequently called the garden boy by telephone and the water was pumped. A few days later, the maid said that the host was expecting us to pay kshs. 2,000 to the maid for the water that was pumped!
Apart from washing the dishes, the house was not cleaned until we requested that the floor be mopped and the bathroom cleaned as dirt was building up.
The location is convenient to the airport and shopping. However, given our disappointing experience we tried to get a refund on the third day so we could find another place to stay but the host did not respond to our phone call or text message about this.
In light of the above, we will not stay here again nor recommend it to others.
Our stay at Roberts bungalow was great. All the comforts of home that you might be missing after travelling in Kenya. Robert was very quick to reply to our last minute request and Gerald, the caretaker, was friendly and helpful.
Dear Lindsay, thank you for leaving a review... hope you enjoyed a safe and comfortable travel back home...
Robert was a great host. We needed somewhere in a hurry and Robert was able to accommodate us. We only stayed one night but we felt safe and comfortable.
Robert's house is in a lovely location in Karen, very convenient for the airport, giraffe centre, National Park, the Carnivore, good shops and supermarkets near by. The house itself is great - the living / dining area is particularly nice to sit in and the garden is beautiful and well-maintained. Gerald the caretaker is extremely helpful and nice. So much nicer to stay in a real home in the relaxing quiet of Karen rather than in a hotel in the busy city. Thanks Robert!
It was a pleasure to meet Robert…he was very pleasant and easy going as was the guest he booked in.
