Used to live in Chicago, SF, LA, NY
I wish we could have stayed a few more nights and days. It was really a sweet bright place and it's a pleasure just to write this review to remember it. I loved the view of the hills from the porch most of all. We were there with knee deep snow all over but we went down to the river anyway and dawdled and that was great. I liked the wood stove; we cooked on it and slept comfortably by it. And there were nice things to play around with--the record player with funny records, the drawing materials, the range of books, VHS movies. The water and bathroom arrangement is primitive but it was fine for us and exactly what we expected. Ruby was genuinely enthusiastic about the cottage and the local area, and was really responsive and helpful. The main house is up the hill but it feels really private down at the cottage--maybe especially in winter. If anyone's looking for an enjoyable getaway with a view and nothing sophisticated, happily, to do, this is a perfect fit.
Exactly as described, a great little cabin just outside of town. We were in town to see friends in Madison, and it served as a great escape when we were done in the city. Things around the cabin were a little hard to find at first, but Ruby was extraordinarily responsive and helped ensure we were settled in in no time. Thanks!
Ruby's house was wonderful! Just what my group needed for the weekend. Cozy and a great location.
Ruby was a delightful and accommodating host, in spite of her incredibly busy schedule. Her home is clean and cozy, and only a short bus ride away from downtown. She offers a lovely range of do-it-yourself breakfast options and even will provide the fixings for a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, should you arrive at her home late at night having not eaten anything (like I did). I'd definitely stay with Ruby again next time I'm in Madison.
We had an amazing time at the Cozy Cottage, it was a perfect place to escape the city for a weekend. We enjoyed listening to records while roasting marshmallows by the fire. Ruby left everything ready and prepared for our stay and it was very comfortable. The area around the pond is beautiful and tranquil - we even saw a bald eagle while we were enjoying our morning coffee! We've already recommended this place to our friends. It's a great base to explore Devil's Lake, Madison, and everything else Southern Wisconsin has to offer!
Ruby's cottage is very cute, cozy and private. The wood stove and porch swing are great. This place is perfect for a romantic getaway, as long as you are ok with the lack of plumbing and a walk to the bathroom. Water is supplied in 2 large coolers. Washing dishes is stepping back in time a bit. I suggest bringing provisions and ice in your own cooler. Heating things up is easy. Bring a book and enjoy the peace and quiet!
Great place! Great views! There is no running water, so be prepared, but the rustic quality of the place and the serenity are terrific. We had a wonderful stay.
I had a fantastic time at Ruby's house - and with her! The location is great, in a quiet and charming neighborhood with one of the lakes just around the corner. It is only ten minutes to downtown and to the university by bike or by bus - AND the house with Ruby's special furniture and decoration is just beautiful!!
Apart from that, Ruby is a great host who cares for her guests in a very uncomplicated and welcoming manner. THANK YOU SO MUCH, RUBY - I have already told you that I would not have enjoyed Madison as much as I did without you :)
And by the way: Have a look into Ruby's other offers... I had the opportunity to stay at Ruby's cabin and it is absolutely worth going there a couple of days, too!! It is really lovely!!
Great spot in the country with beautiful room and bath. Wonderful host. Comfortable house with bike and running trail close by.
The Cozy Cottage was perfect. A little rustic, but all you need near by. Riley Tavern was great for a burger & beers. New Glarus Brewery & Mt. Horeb a skip away. Bring your bike! And some good rain boots to stomp around in just in case you get a little rain. We will return for sure! Bring some drinking water for coffee, and pick up some fire wood for the fire pit & wood stove (which cranks for it's wee size).
We were so happy to meet Ruby and her mom before they left. Very great women. Come again! Hope to make it once your direction.
Thanks a wonderful person, even if, it was not for the best at first, my maid got sick, so the apt got a 24h delay for it's full cleaning, we worked it out. and finally enjoyed oysters and wine and wonderful stories in one of those secret little place around the corner, we both share love for. She is an amazing person, a supper one to have in your place, and I hope we'll meet again one day, maybe in Cannes!
Ruby and Jason stayed two nights with us - we thoroughly enjoyed their company. Easy going, kind, and funny, they both were a breeze to get along with and were very low-maintenance. Good communication regarding arrival times. And as Air BnB hosts, Ruby & Jason are super aware of the work that goes into making a place comfortable and welcoming - they surprised us by stripping the bed and tidying their room before checking out. We're just sorry they had to leave!
Ruby and her family were a pleasure to host. They not only were incredibly respectful, clean, and generous, but they were a ton of fun to talk with and get to connect with. Their light added a quick bit of wonderful to my apartment! Thanks- you are welcome back any time.
We very much enjoyed hosting Ruby and her partner, Clark. They were very gracious, respectful, and friendly and left the cabin very clean.
Ruby and her friend Clark stayed with me for two nights. They are totally cool folks, very clean and respectful. They left the place spotless, and in in the drink container on the sink a nice stem flower picked from my neighbor's garden -- nah, I'm messing about the garden part. ;-) They are very cool to chat with. You would enjoy having them as guests!
This Cozy Cottage is also tres chic! I loved the art, the turquoise couch, and the exquisite white leather chair. The bed was really comfortable too, and it was fun to climb up and be in the loft. I was very concerned about being cold, but the Scandinavian wood-burning stove kept it gloriously toasty.
Ruby is aptly named, because she is a true gem. Ridiculously accommodating, gracious and funny, she will make sure that your stay is as close as possible to exactly what you wanted. I would definitely go back.
