The place was clean as expected from the pictures. The location was right on the centre of Georgetown which made it easy to get around. Calvin was a great help allowing us to drop our luggage off early since we arrived earlier than expected and answered any questions we had. Since it's right smack in the middle of Georgetown it was a bit noisy but that is to be expected based on the location. I Would recommend this place of you don't mind the noise and want to be in a great location.
My partner and our 1 year old baby spent 3 nights over a weekend in Michelle's boutique homestay.
Location - central to heaps of food/touristy stuff in George Town. Hawker centres, historical mansions, the famous street art area, the jettys, food galore, little India, random markets, malls, food. Just at the top of the street is a cute road with lots of nice stuff including a cat cafe. We really liked the area. Great for wandering around. There's a cafe a few meters over the road with very helpful and friendly staff and decent food (Pit Stop).
The big downside is that in the evenings it can be pretty noisy outside, as every family on the island is trying to get a parking spot in the area. The Friday night was loud all night long, but Sat & Sun were better. There's always some ambient noise going on from the area too. Light sleepers be warned.
The accom itself is really affectionately restored. The upstairs sleeping quarters are lovely. The bed was comfortable. The adjoining outdoor shower is incredible on a hot day (all our days there were brutally hot!). The aircon on both levels is heavy-duty and was desperately needed. We *really* appreciated coming home to that after stomping around all day.
Cons - A few of the light fixtures didn't work, not having light in the (outdoor) kitchen sucked at night when we were dealing with baby stuff. Stairs indoors are quite steep so we left luggage (website hidden) signal was out while we were there, but was apparently being addressed.
Yes mosquitos exist but the place is equipped to deal with them in conjunction with you and your bug spray.
Calvin/Michelle the host/corresponder were very friendly, attentive and responsive to our needs. The apartment was charming and historic and only needed a few minor details to greatly enhance the experience such as more lighting fixtures and to provide more soundproof windows. Staying in such a historic apartment definitely added to our George Town heritage experience.
I must say I very much like the old city of George Town. The place is located in the city centre and used to be the a laundry in the old days and has no been remodeled into a guest house with a distinguished antique flavour. The kitchen is free to be used, in the afternoon we moved the rattan chairs outside to sunbathe - perfect! The neighbourhood has it all: cafés, hawkers, 7-elevens, all within reach and super convenient! The outside shower on the first floor was very much to our pleasure.
The location is great right next to the famous Love Lane, you have all the cafe and hawkers food right in front of your door step. Same as every other review, the noise is inevitable, as long as you stay in heritage houses like this, all the motorbike will pass your house.
The place is neat, nice and cozy. Calvin the person that check us in is very helpful. Thanks a lot!
What a lovely place and location! We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful house. Thank you Michelle :)
Great location in the heart of historic Georgetown. House was charming and at the centre of the action. Calvin was helpful and prompt.
We're fairly sensitive to noise but we acclimatised quickly and by the second night stopped noticing it. It's also a fair trade off when you consider the convenience of being able to walk to the best of Georgetown.
Only criticism was the lack of a couple of basic amenities, ie some soap by the kitchen sink and a couple of light fixtures want fixing. But we would certainly recommend this place and stay there again next time we are in Penang.
It was a pleasant stay at Michelle's house. Unique and full of historical taste. The room is clean and spacious. The open air shower area was cool. I love it.
I like the location. Very convenient. Minutes to all the famous eateries and cafes. No problem to get anything from this area.
The house is suitable for young couple or young people who loves unique design and historical architecture house.
Thank you Calvin and Michelle.
