We just spent the most amazing month at Juan's house and really had a fabulous time! The property sits on a nice private lot on a quiet street with the ocean across the street, with lots of fauna/flora and animals. The caretakers Suyee, Alvarro and Dustin couldn't be more lovely! Juan was very responsive - the Internet went down after a storm and he had someone onsite to fix very quickly. The location is perfect by both swimming and snorkeling beach and close to the bus. We found a great app (website hidden) that has all the local bus routes. We enjoyed venturing out to Bribri, Cahuita, Manzanilla and the various beaches within walking distance. We hope to come back!
Juan is a super nice host and we enjoyed the house and all its amenities to the fullest. It is exactly as the listing shows. The décor is very inviting and unique at the same time. Both showers have hot and cold water, which is a nice bonus. The internet worked flawless and at high speed. Having the beach with one of the best swimming area right at the door step makes Juan's property the best place to stay. The care takers surprised us with a delicious and nutritious breakfast treat and fresh cut coconuts - for us it was like living in paradise. The garden is most beautiful with plenty of flowers, butterflies, birds, sloths and monkeys. The beds are all in excellent condition. The seating areas, including two hammocks, on both decks enhanced our comfort of enjoying the view of the sea and the climate of the great outdoors. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a large window which opens up overlooking the Caribbean Sea, and enhances the well planned layout of the house. Thumbs up to Juan and the lovely family who takes great care of the property.
Really nice house directly at the beach. Nice garden with monkeys and lot of other animals. Was a very lovely stay.
Punta Uva is the perfect vacation spot. Juan's house was perfect for myself and my family. The house has a lot of outdoor seating, the kitchen is well equipped for cooking big meals, the beach is right across the sand road, the water is crystal clear, and the warm weather hugs you like a grandmother. 7 family members had a great time. We never met Juan, but the family on the property is sweet and unobtrusive. The photos are accurate. The place is safe and the vibe of the area made it easy to relax.
Another restful vacation!! Punta Uva is the most beautiful beach with the most amazing reef for snorkeling.....literallly right at your feet! Punta Juancito is a fabulous house and had everything you could need. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you could need to prepare meals at home, including a full-size refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster oven, microwave and a gas cooktop. WiFi is available and the connection was excellent. A 10 minute walk puts you at the bus stop and from there it's an easy ride into Puerto Viejo or the other direction to Manzanillo (make sure to check out Calm and Cool Cafe if you go to Manzanillo....amazing local dishes with a terrific atmosphere). Alvaro and Suhey took good care of us, and their little boy, Dustin, is a dollbaby :) We only lost power for a few minutes one night, and Alvaro was right there making sure we were ok and made sure we knew where the backup lights were. We visited this same beach 4 years ago, and now we can't wait for our next trip!
We loved staying at Juan's house! The 7 nights we booked were so amazing that we ended up booking an extra night, especially because the weather cleared up and we just didn't want to leave...the beach is right there and it is glorious! Highlights were watching tons of monkeys eating leaves in the trees right outside the house and colorful birds and butterflies. We got great use out of the kitchen - cooked our meals everyday. But perhaps the very best part of it all was the warmth and kindness we felt from Alvaro and his wife Suje (and their little son Dustin who became friends with the toddler in our group!). They take great care of the property and it was so wonderful having them close by. Juan was easy to contact and responded very quickly. The house is great for long term stay and just chillin and relaxing at a beautiful laid back beach in Costa Rica!
Such a beautiful house in a beautiful place !
Absolutely all was perfect.
Monkeys, parrots, tucans, lizards, giant grasshoppers, agutis and a sloth in the garden !!! My son was amazed to see all these animals so close.
Thank you, Juan, sure i'll be back
Juan's house was exactly what we were looking for in Costa Rica. We had stayed a few nights prior in a nearby house up the road, and all of my friends and I like Juan's place better! If you're looking for a relaxing, charming, vacation house right near the beach, then stay here.
The beach (basically private) is literally a 30 second walk from your front door. There is very little actual beach since the tide comes up to the tree line for most of the day, but walk a few feet to the left or to the right and you're set! While we were there, there were only a few other couples/families using the beach, which made it our own piece of private paradise!
There are two hammocks (one upstairs and one downstairs) which we made very good use of, and the downstairs eating area is exquisite! A huge hand carved table sits underneath a beautiful light fixture made from the local driftwood. The kitchen was completely stocked and had everything we might need while we were there (even a cheese grater)! The upstairs bedrooms get a beautiful, cool breeze coming off the ocean at night, but the downstairs bedrooms stays a bit warmer. We did have a few crabs join us and plenty of beetles flying around the lights, but we quickly learned that this is a standard for any Costa Rican open-air homes.
The WiFi worked well while we were there (even enough to FaceTime a friend once).
Our caretakers (Suje and Alvaro) didn't speak any English but were extremely helpful. One night during a storm, the power went out and Alvaro was there immediately to help us and look for battery powered flashlights and lanterns. I was able to communicate with him because of my limited Spanish, but someone with no Spanish knowledge might have a bit of a hard time.
There are very few things that warrant a criticism about this place. You can walk 5 minutes both to a restaurant (not very frequented while we were there, but still operating) and a grocery store (has most things you would need). It is a short drive into town and the surrounding communities of Playa Cocles and Manzanillo.
Thank you, Juan, for letting us stay in your beautiful home! May you have the best of luck in the future.
OH! And the bathroom has one of those showers that feels like a waterfall. IDEAL.
Staying in Juan's house for 10 nights was a lovely but rustic experience. Although I never actually met Juan, he was easy to get in touch with and the lines of communication were great! The best qualities about this house is location, location, location! Falling asleep to the sound of the waves was extraordinary.
The main issue we had with the house were the windows without screens. There is no AC, but there are nice glass sliding doors that open up to the balcony from the bedrooms that have no screens on them. In fact, none of the windows in the upstairs bedrooms have screens. Unfortunately we were so bombarded with insects, that the mosquito nets over the beds were not suffice, therefore we kept the sliding doors closed. With that being said there was little to no air circulation, when it could have been wonderful to feel the ocean breezes. Also, I just want to clarify that this is my 5th trip to Costa Rica, so I am quite accustomed to the insects, but without screens there was an abundance of them in the bedrooms.
My other issue was that we were not properly equipped for 10 days. There were no dish towels, no one to take out the garbage (especially when you can't flush your toilet paper down the toilet,) no cleaning products to clean the house, and the upstairs bathroom toilet seat is broken. We did reach out to Juan for fresh bath towels 5 days into our stay, and he had the property manager give them to us promptly. I just feel that with the daily maintenance this house needs due to the fact that the jungle creates issues constantly, it would be nice to have a house keeper come in and freshen things up, and take out the garbage a few times during a long stay.
I would recommend this house for a short stay for those who enjoy rustic living. Being next to the beach was the highlight.
This house is very nice and close to the beach, just an inconvenience during our stay is we didn't can use the outdoor terrace for dinner due to a lot of flying insects.....
