We are PhD students at UC Berkeley. We love the bay area's temperate climate, great produce and friendly people. We hope you enjoy your stay!
We were in town for a friends wedding and chose this property based on location and the reviews on airbnb. While the host was excellent in communicating with us and allowing for really flexible check in and check out, the cottage was dirty and unwelcoming. I'm sorry but the photos of the backyard and living space are not accurate of what you will experience. Positives and negatives below for you. We won't be staying here again based on our experience.
Fun, funky neighborhood close to Berkeley shops
Flexible check in and check out
Cottage was not cleaned prior to our arrival.
Bathroom floor, sink and toilet dirty, the trashcan in the bathroom was full on arrival. There was hair in the sink drain and the floor
Fridge smelled and food in kitchen drain
There was a layer of dust on everything and it felt as if the space hadn't been occupied in awhile or whoever was there just didn't care. There are cobwebs on the ceiling.
Very little ventilation, the windows don't open and there is a skylight cracked open which makes the space stuffy
Personal items of the hosts are randomly stored in the space (next to the couch, under the desk, beside the bed) making the space feel cramped and making those areas less usable.
I needed a last minute place for a colleague to stay and Lydia responded very quickly! A perfect little cottage in lieu of a boring old hotel room in Berkeley. Very private and quiet! Thanks.
Lydia was a very nice and responsive host! Her instructions were clear and we were easily able to let ourselves in. The cottage is quiet and private, great for a short stay on a budget. Thanks for everything Lydia!
Lydia's place was a short distance to campus with all the amenities of Berkeley without the high prices. I recommend staying at her place. She is super responsive and was accommodating to a short-notice stay. I would totally totally stay here again. Thanks, Lydia.
The host canceled my reservation 11 days before arrival.
Lydia was a very responsive host. We booked last minute and she was accommodating. The cottage was clean, the location is great, and neighborhood is very good. Though the cottage is tidy, we were uncomfortable. I wasn't expecting luxury for $75 a night, but unfortunately the quality of the mattress was very poor and there was no top sheet on the bed, with two twin sized duvets covering on the double bed. Seeing as we were mainly using the cottage for its sleeping facilities, we were disappointed. I felt ill the next day and we decided to just head home instead of staying on for our second night. Per airbnb cancellation policy, we were not refunded any of our second night, which I fully understand.
It was such a delight staying at Lydia's cottage. The cottage is cozy with lots of natural light. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. The train station is nearby (10 minute) or you can park at the station for free on weekends (1.00 on weekdays)! We mainly visited SF and found the commute to be comfortable and quick.
Lydia is a wonderful host. She responded very quickly to all of our email inquiries. She even left baked goodies for us--- definitely above and beyond what we expected.
I was pleased to stay at Lydia’s place in South Berkeley. The cottage is spacious, quiet, and secure. Although I didn’t get to meet Lydia in person, she was gracious in offering help via email/phone with any questions I might have, including suggestions for restaurants. The cottage is located fairly closely to two BART stations, each about equidistant from the house, a little over ½ mile away in either direction. The accommodations aren’t luxurious, but the price is very good for a few nights’ stay, particularly for your own large space. The kitchen area is roomy, nice for food-cooking and storage if you want to take advantage of all that’s available at nearby Berkeley Bowl, or at area farmers markets. Lydia provided me with a large, thick bath towel, and the bed was made up with fresh linens and a substantial duvet. I recommend staying at Lydia’s if you are on a budget, and would like your own large space not too far from the university!
Spent the weekend in San Francisco at this very cute little cottage in Berkeley. We had a great time. Lydia was very responsive and accomodating. There was even a baked snack for us when we arrived. The cottage is a short walk from many bars and restaurants right in Berkeley. If you have a car there is plenty of street parking options and its a short drive to most the bay area attractions.
Lydia, you and your husband were delightful visitors. How did two scientists get to be so charming and sweet? You are very quiet, peaceful people, but have quick intelligence and a generous sense of humor. Any time you want to come back, my home is open to you. I would recommend you to anyone with the good luck to interest you!
We love to host Lydia, they were all very nice and respectful! I will definitely recommend lydia to any one!
