We had a wonderful stay at Hilda's. Hilda arranged for her Cousin, Juan, to pick us up from the water taxi and give us a ride to the apartment which was very nice. She met us on-site and gave us the complete rundown of the unit and island. The apartment was very clean and well kept, and we enjoyed the rooftop deck as well. Free bikes with the stay were a huge perk, and the ride into the main part of town was an easy and enjoyable one (5-10 min). Overall, our stay on Caye Caulker was amazing, and we recommend Hilda's Bay Breezes for pleasant, quiet stay - great value.
Our stay in Hilda's place was great. She is really helpfull. She rented us bikes. House is clean. I can recomend this place.
Hilda was helful in providing us with the information we needed for enjoying our lovely 5 day stay in Caye Caulker. The apartment is away from the center where stores resturants and tour shops are at(15 minute walk). The apartment has a local feel so do not expect luxury, it was just what were looking for and allowed us to be among the friendly locals. We loved that we also had bikes provided for us, as it allowed us to more freely explore Caye Caulker.

Nettes Appartment bei Einheimischen. Etwas schwer zu finden und bisschen weit weg von der Hauptpromenade. Aber dafür ists schön ruhig und es gibt gratis Fahrräder und somit sieht man auch einiges von der Insel.
Great place to stay - especially if you have a budget! The bikes are a real plus. Otherwise you have to rent a bike or a cart while there. It's a little remote, but that's a good thing if you don't want the noise at night. The apartment was very clean. The rooftop is a great hangout. Julio across the street has a cab & drove us to the water taxi when the cab from town didn't show. I would recommend using him if needed. Overall we had a great stay. Highly recommend staying here.
Hilda was a pleasure to deal with she arranged for a taxi to meet us at the water. Taxi dock and bring us to the apt he very informative as was Hilda on restaurants and grocery stores on the island. The apt is exactly as shown in the pictures on airbandb. There was always a great breeze blowing through our apt. The apt has everything you need to cook your meals at home if you choose to. The roof top decks were wonderful for catching some sun or cool breezes good idea to bring some repellent for the no seeums. Hemp oil works to immediately stop the itch if you happen to get bit you may want to bring it with you as a small bottle on the island will cost you more. Some people don't get bit. Some do Hilda was very responsive to any email I sent her and was just wonderful. The bikes were great and just a short ride to town the island is relaxed and fun with many, many fine restaurants in every nook and cranny. The islanders were warm and welcoming. I hated to leave.
Great place, great price
We had a wonderful time on caye caulker and loved our apartment. It was a little farther out on the island, but honestly it a really nice walk or bike ride (Hilda even gives you bikes). I liked being farther away from downtown, being where locals lived and not in a touristy resort. From the roof are epic views of sunrise and sunset, not to be missed.
Caye Caulker was wonderful. Hilda gave wonderful directions to her place including helping us get a golf cart ride from the taxi to her place. Hilda’s communication was fast and efficient. She connected us with a snorkelling tour group Anda De Wada Tours ran by a family member that was fantastic! They even gave us a 10% discount because we were staying with Hilda.
The photos in the ad make the apartment look much cleaner and nicer than it actually is. We were met with a roach upon arrival unfortunatly and one on the last morning before we left. Additionally, the apartment is in a rougher part of the village within the working part of the community. I did not mind that and did feel safe walking and biking in the community even at night. However, this environment might not be for everyone.
My husband adjusted the showerhead and got an electric shock which was a bit scary.
The upstairs balcony was awesome but full of sand flies. To be fair, the sand flies were everywhere in the Caye though. Bring tons of bug spray and cover yourself to avoid the biting sand flies and mosquitoes. The view of the water is not nearly as close as it looks in the photograph on the website although it is lovely. You just have to over look a few empty lots in order to see it.
The wi-fi was pretty good in our room although others complained that it didn’t work very well in their rooms.
The apartment is full of three other groups which was a lot of fun but not particularly private if that is what you are looking for.
Overall, the apartment was a great value as long as you have the correct expectations in advance.
I had the pleasure of staying in the Bay Breeze Apartments (pre-airbnb listing) and found it hard to leave. Hilda was a great host and cared for my enjoyment and comfort. She was born and raised in Caye Caulker and has an abundance of local knowledge and takes pride in her Belizean roots. Its location was perfect for me, just a 10 minute bike ride away from the busy center. As a traveler I find it more enjoyable to stay near the locals and away from the tourists and appreciate a more authentic experience. I would definitely stay here again!
