All guests are instructed to call before beginning the drive to Hana because cell phone service is very poor between Paia and Hana town. The best cell carriers are Verizon and AT&T.
Yes, the Hana area is rural and quiet. There are no chain restaurants or big box stores and, hopefully, there will never be. Anyone who comes to Hana expecting nightlife should, perhaps, stay in the more populated Lahaina, Kihei, or Wailea areas of the island.
The sofabed used for extra guests is as comfortable as most beds of this type. Another convertible twin size bed is in the bedroom and can easily be folded out, if needed.
Air freshener sprayed before a stay quickly dissipates once the windows are opened. Guest must remember that the Hana area is located on the rainforest and jungle side of Maui. The mildew smells are generally coming outside the house and mix with the smells emanating from the ocean, which is less than 100 yards from the cottage.
The washer is for the housekeeper and is not available for guests. We apologize for the towels, but guests may call us anytime and more towels will be delivered, if needed. The checkout time of 10:00 am is stated in the confirmation that each guest receives. We attempt to accommodate a later checkout time only if there is not another booking scheduled on the checkout day, but not more than an hour. There was a new guest booked for that day. This guest's 1:00 pm checkout request could not be accommodated. A later checkout disrupts the housekeeper's schedule.
