We had a fabulous stay at the Poolhouse, and would go back in a heartbeat. Randy and Anne were great hosts, and really friendly. The Poolhouse was perfect for a girl's trip. We enjoyed seeing the island, but our favorite days were hanging at the pool and heading to the beach (15 minute drive). Follow Randy's suggestions for things to see. We were not disappointed. We did our grocery shopping at Waikoloa Village, which was pricey. (cheaper food at Costco but it's a longer trip). Waimea has good food and cheaper than the Village or the beach areas.
Again, thanks Randy and Anne for a great week. We loved getting to know you both and hope to see you again.
We had a fantastic stay at the Poolhouse. It's in a great location to visit beaches, the ranch-country on the North end of the Island and star-gazing on Manua Kea. The accommodations are great - comfortable bed, well stocked kitchen and the shower is amazing. We bought groceries at a local grocery store and farmer's market, and made dinner on the grill. It was lovely to lounge around the pool and hottub, and to watch the occasional movie on the satellite TV. The hosts were great - we'd certainly return!
We spent 10 nights there and could have easily spent 10 more. Randy and Ann were very gracious and thought of everything. The place is amazing and I'm grateful that they were willing to share it with us. I only wish we were able to spend more time with them as they seem to be very special people. Being on vacation, we were on the go during the day and kind of hard to connect with.
The Poolhouse was amazing. Thanks to Anne and Randy's tips and all the beach going accessories you could need, we had the most amazing stay. And grilling fresh fish on the bbq followed up by a dip in the hot tub wasn't too shabby. I highly recommend it.
I cannot express enough thanks to Anne and Randy for an amazing stay! Everything awesome you've read is true- the place comes nicely stocked with beach and cooking equipment, they left some nice starters in the fridge so we made it through the first night without needing a grocery run and the pool is incredible!! Randy and Anne gave us great suggestions for local places that were super helpful and were incredible hosts all around. The location of this place is perfect- you have grocery/small shops 5 mins away and another 5 mins down you have A'Bay beach, more shopping and dining and great beaches! We debated staying in Waikoloa vs Kona and I am SO glad we chose here! This was the perfect location for us, we were able to travel all over the island easily and most importantly, we could not have asked for a better place and more gracious hosts. Thanks a million- we'll be back :)
I love the place. The pool is a bit cool, so I didn't spend much time there, but the hot tub was perfect. I loved looking out at both of them. Randy and Anne were great to deal with and it was great to get to know them. Bruce was great about hauling the paddle board down to the beach and it was fun trying something new. Yes, it's a drive to the beach, but it's like that everywhere you stay unless you want to pay the really big bucks for it. It's a great view and there is a grocery store there as well as other stores. You can go to Hilo from there in about 1.3 hours and to Kona in about 25 minutes. I will be back!!!
The place was immaculate, wonderfully appointed and everything was provided, including a lot of extras like coffee, fruit, cereal snorkel and beach gear, fresh flowers and even a couple of cold beers in the fridge upon arrival. By far the nicest property for the price we have found. Randy and Anne our host and hostess were very kind and considerate but also gave us total privacy. We didn't want to leave.
We loved every moment - the most relaxing vacation we have taken in years! The Poolhouse has everything you need for pure indulgence - your personal pool and hot tub to relax in any time you want, Well appointed kitchen with breakfast goodies too. Randy and Anne have thought of everything - paddle board, bikes, snorkels and fins, beach and pool towels, beach chairs and coolers, etc to make your stay so comfortable.
The Poolhouse is located close to great beaches in the Kohala area. Be sure to go to the Mauna Kea observatory - a new road makes it a very worthwhile 45 min. trip. Try to get there before sunset so that you can see the incredible sunset along with the stars rising in the sky.
I cannot express how wonderful our stay at the poolhouse was. Anne and Randy were excellent hosts. They greeted us, showed us around, gave us some great advice on what to do in the area and then completely disappeared. Even though the main house does overlook the pool and poolhouse you really feel like you have the place to yourself. The pool and hot tub are fed by a lovely fountain, and makes the perfect place to wind down after an active day around the island.
The adorable little poolhouse has a full kitchen, all you could want as far as entertainment, excellent WiFi and is beautifully decorated. If that isn't enough to blow any hotel chain away, they also leave you shampoo, soap etc and even little toothbrushes and toothpaste! My husband forgot his toothbrush and we were so excited to see those there. They also leave out a little food and water for the first day until you have a chance to stock the fridge yourself.
Everything about this setup has been carefully thought through to make your stay as incredible as possible. I cannot stress this enough! There is a little computer with bookmarks of maps, restaurants and activities on the island. They have two bicycles you can use, a paddle board, snorkel gear, beach chairs, umbrellas, beach towels and the list goes on. All at your disposal whenever you need it.
We really enjoyed our trip to the Big Island and I think the decision to stay with Anne and Randy in the poolhouse had a whole lot to do with that!!
Our stay at the poolhouse was fantastic! It was the perfect size for my boyfriend and I. We had a kitchen, cable TV, a comfy bed, awesome rainfall shower head AND a pool with a hot tub all to ourselves. Randy provided us a with a lot of extra amenities. He had beach towels and umbrellas for us to bring to the beach. He had those floaties, too! Randy and Anne were so sweet. We'd love to stay there again if we go back to the Big Island. If you need a place to stay as a couple, this is the place! It's in waikoloa village, which we thought was a really nice neighborhood and was perfect for us since we wanted to drive to Kona as well as Hilo.
Also, remember to close the door behind you quickly. There's lots of geckos in climates like that. We had one that crawled into our poolhouse. It was too quick for us and we couldn't lure it out. It didn't bother us much since it was in hiding most of the time.
