Brooklyn, New York native - and second generation at that !! My son, David A. Golden is an architect in San Francisco. He, his wife and his two children live off of Sloat Blvd and across from Stern Grove in the Sunset district. I'm generally visiting S.F. to celebrate a grandchild's birthday. But I also visit friends and family in the East Bay. I don't drive - doing that in NYC is really problematic - I rely entirely on public transportation. And when I visit S.F. I look very carefully at what the public transportation availability is to where ever I'm staying. I'm allergic to animals, in general, but I can stay in a home with a pet if I can avoid contact with it. I need a clean, private bedroom with a real bed in a home that may not be immaculate, but isn't really dirty. And I need a small space in a refrigerator. Those are my basic needs. I'm liberal in my politics. Enjoy all the usual stuff, I guess, but l love a ride/walk on the coast best of all - doesn't matter if I go North or South. The coast is glorious ! And so are the magnificent trees. And the lush flora everywhere. I've been coming to S. F. for decades - and if I weren't such a NYer at heart, I could easily be a San Franciscan. I've stayed at homes in various parts of San Francisco either through Airbnb or C. list for years and years and much prefer a home away from home to a hotel. Every summer I manage a hostel for the Appalachian Mountain Club on Fire Island for a week and I also rent a room in my apartment on a continuous basis. I understand something of what my host or hostess experiences when someone comes to stay. So I consider myself a very good guest to have - congenial, but can give you space if that's what you need; I'm clean, quiet and self-sufficient. My older son who lives in NY was a Berkeley doctorate student decades ago, and that's when I started coming to the West coast. So, I feel pretty at home there now, and I've made friends by staying in people's homes too. I stay in shape by regular attendance at a gym and consider that essential when I'm in NY. I can give references if you need them, although my reviews from hosts on AirBnB. are probably sufficient.
