This is indeed a secluded guest house in a desert-like surrounding. The place is a modest one room studio. A decent quite place and accessible too. But the room, furniture and other furnishings are quite old and worn out. May be, looking at the pictures, I expected something more modern! But for the price you pay I guess you can't ask for more :) The good thing is it had some amenities like microwave, mixers, dishes etc.
Although I do feel charging $20 for cleaning is a bit overkill since the place was not that clean after all. I could see dust on the floor and foot prints of the person who probably walked with wet feet before we checked-in. Also the room smells kinda weird when you come in the first time. A lot can be done to improve the place and may be charge a little extra for it too.
I did not get to meet David but am sure he is a nice person. He's very quick to respond to emails and texts. Was helpfully in giving me directions to the place and also warned me of freeway closures the day I arrived.
Overall, we had a good experience. I would give this 3.5 stars but can be easily swayed to a 4 if the place is kept up well.
We didn't get a chance to meet David, but our check in / check out was fine. David gave us a good dinner recommendation.
The neighborhood was nice and very quiet. The guest house was clean and tidy. The bed was large and comfortable.
We did have a small problem in that we couldn't get hot water in the shower in the morning. It was very early in the morning so we didn't want to bother David, and he assured us that it would be fixed.
Beautiful neighborhood nestled close to the mountains. Lizards, mourning doves, quail, a bunny. David was gracious, generous and, after settling in, left me alone. Air conditioning worked great to cool the place down. Comfy bed. Everything was clean. Plenty of dishes and cooking implements.
Beautiful natural desert neighborhood. Spacious accommodations with all the amenities, like camping in the desert, with the deck overlooking the Arroyo. Hike or bike in this neighborhood is like being out in the wild desert, either along the rough asphalt or through the dried riverbed. Outstanding view of the Catalinas makes this a a a perfect desert location for your visit to Tucson.

thanks for staying
and thanks for the private feedback
David's place was lovely! Very open and airy, with access to the beautiful desert wash behind the house for a pleasant evening walk. David was very easy to reach to coordinate getting keys, etc.
Despite being out of town, David was very courteous and communicative, and it was very easy to check in to the guest house. What a cute little space! We had a pleasant stay. The only downside was the cleanliness. I mentioned some of the issues to David, and he let me know immediately that he would remedy these things--the person who cleaned the place while he wasn't available must not have done their job correctly.
I had a great 6-night stay at David's guest house in the far outskirts of Tucson in early April. The space is open and sunny, and the sliding doors on each side of the studio allow for cross breezes, especially on cool nights. The neighborhood is quiet and lovely, but keep in mind that this is a more "suburban" area of the city and you'll want to drive everywhere. The desert landscape really was striking - and Oscar and I ran into our first coyote while on a morning walk one day! This is a nice, pared down studio - exactly to my taste. Cell reception can be spotty (Verizon) if that is necessary for you, as it was for me to work. Also, the deck boards can be wobbly past the doors, so those areas are definitely not kid or pet friendly.
I had an awesome stay at David's Raw Desert Guest House. David is a very nice, interesting person and a great conversation partner. The guest house is bright and inviting, the bed is very comfortable, so is the couch. Water pressure and cleanliness were okay as well.
I had a wonderful stay in Tucson at David's guest house. I was a little apprehensive about taking the trip at all as I have to take some medicine for 9 months that makes me need to get a lot of sleep....and I am a very light sleeper.
As soon as I met David I felt very comfortable. It seemed like he was really going out of his way to accommodate me. The bed is very comfortable and I spent 4 perfect days with my friends. It is very quiet there. You can sit out on the porch and look at the desert and the Catalina Mountains. I felt very lucky to find the place, and this is my first time using airbnb.
Thank you David,
David's place is located in a beautiful dessert setting, and is quit private. He was responsive to our requests and was accomodating. Although his rental has the potential to be exceptional, it has a ways to go. Most of the issues were related to cleaning and general house keeping. The walls and bathroom need prep and painting, and most of the interior, along with the microwave, coffe pot, etc. needed cleaning. The place had a slight, but unpleasant odor, that seemed to be strongest near the bed, or leather sitting chair, which was stained The exterior decks need some repairs and would best if refinished. Towels and blankets also could use a more thorough cleaning (or replacement) to remove stains. The water system apparently uses rain and city water as sources, but air gaps in the system made it sputter at the faucet. I forgot to ask David if the water was potable, so we bought purfied water for drinking. The bottom line is I could not recommend staying here, particularly at the price we paid ($97/night with Airbnb charge). However, with some fairly minor repairs, cleaning, and replacement furnishings, it could be a jewel in the desert.
David was a great guest and a very interesting man. I hope we will continue to keep in touch and I would gladly host him again.

David travels light and was a considerate and low-maintenance guest here in Eugene to visit his sister. He is a committed environmentalist and left the place in great shape.
