Well traveled, educated, single, interesting, boat captain, entrepreneur, inventive, fun.
We were not given the actual address until the day we were to stay at the home. It was further out than expected but we chose to stay anyway (what other choice did we have at this point??). When we arrived, the host seemed accommodating but then told us he had changed the room and purchased a plastic blow up bed for one of us and the other two could use the double bed. Our daughter's husband is in Afghanistan so we thought going "away" would help her deal with her loneliness, instead it only made it worse and she had an anxiety attack. We had to take her home after being there only 2 hours. The host was already in bed when we left but we left an explicit note stating why we left and were hopeful for a partial or full refund. We heard nothing from him. I texted him the next day and he said he understood the stress but when asked about the refund he stopped replying. I waited another day and asked again. He said he had replied...only to say he understood why we left NOT about the refund. He told us he had purchased this plastic blow-up bed for us (even though we had "rented" a room that would accommodate 3 and tried to guilt by saying he "did it for us" when we clearly had not rented a double bed. This left a very bad taste in our mouth since he changed accommodations on us, gave us a lesser room and awful bed, and then would not give us a refund even though he had said he would give us a refund earlier that day if we wanted it because the address was further away than we had anticipated. He also stated he had given up a chance to rent the room to someone else for 7 days but had told me in an earlier email he had rented the room he gave us to someone and he would find another place to sleep and we could have his room. Hmmm! Didn't turn out that way when we were there. So in short, while he seemed accommodating, we felt that he wasn't fully upfront with us and was unwilling to address our extenuating circumstances.
I was comfortable and felt safe in Joel's amazing home and neighborhood. I highly recommend anyone to stay here. I prefer staying in a residential area and "traveling like a local" and this North Myrtle Beach location was perfect. North Myrtle Beach is less touristy and more upscale than the city of Myrtle Beach. Joel was a warm, personable host and his home was very inviting. I am a single woman, and I felt completely safe staying with him at the home. It was immaculate and it was clear that a lot of thought and care had gone into making sure I was comfortable when I arrived. The refrigerator and counter top were stocked with food and beverages and the kitchen was fully equipped so that I could cook my own meals. It can get hot and humid in this area and there was central A/C and heat which I was free to adjust and great ceiling fans in my guest room and the living area. The Wi-Fi signal was excellent which was important to me as I needed access to my work email. There was also a cordless land line provided with free domestic calls. The outdoor patio was very private and wooded with a cool outdoor shower which guests could enjoy. Joel runs a boat charter company and even took me on a complimentary cruise on his boat! Also, I was at this home when Barb arrived, the lady who posted the negative review below. Barb's family checked into the home at around 10 pm, stayed for a long time, took a shower, drank beverages, and rested in the guest room provided to them. Then very early in the morning, they decided to leave the home. Staying at someone's home involves more than using the bed. Joel made his lovely home as comfortable and inviting as he could. The home was thoroughly cleaned prior to Barb's arrival and was immaculate. He went out of this way for her, more than any reasonable host could be expected to. Barb's family had already spent a significant amount of time at the home and used the guest room, and at that late juncture, Joel could no longer rent the room to anyone else. I was personally there when Barb and her family socialized with Joel for a considerable time, and the whole family appeared happy and smiled a lot. I saw Joel showing them around the home and their room, and I did not hear them complain to Joel that the room or accommodations were not to their expectations or different from what was described orally or in writing in Joel's AirBnB listing. Barb knows her daughter more than anyone else, and if her daughter was prone to panic or anxiety attacks, she should have just booked a hotel room rather than the AirBnB experience, which commonly involves sharing a home with others. I really enjoyed meeting Barb and her family and I hope they give AirBnB another shot.
The reservation was canceled 2 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Joel's place is awesome, super clean and fun. The neighborhood is safe and quiet. Joel is very helpful, he (email hidden) and a person to chat with. I really enjoyed the time I (email hidden). I wish I stayed longer lol
Joel's place was beautiful! The pictures didn't do it justice. He was very fast and easy to communicate with, and even had towels and some groceries put out when we arrived. I would definitely recommend his spot and look forward to staying there again. Kudos.
I was visiting this area with my daughter looking at colleges. Joel was very accommodating and responded quickly to all of my questions. Even offering to ship my iPad which I thought I left at his house. His home is very lovely and clean and his cat is very friendly. We stayed in the bunk room and the beds were very comfortable. Wish we could have spent more time in the area.
Enjoyed our stay at Joel'(website hidden) was clean and comfortable.
Joel was very accommodating. He made every effort to (email hidden) despite being out of town.
The one bed option is a great value, for the lone traveler. As a college student I really appreciator that. I would recommend Joel to anyone needing a place to stay in North Myrtle Beach.
Joel couldn't have been more interesting and respectful. I had my own private bedroom and (email hidden)ry clean and relaxing. I learned a lot about the South with the stories he shared...something I want to learn.
Before I left, he spent a great deal of time creating a (website hidden) map for me to follow in the next days of my trip. Not too many people would have done that.
This place to stay is a major bargain. Make it a destination spot for a Southern experience.
Joel is an awesome host with an exceptional house. He helped me out whenever I needed it and was he is really easy to have a conversation with. I'll be staying there again.
Joel is a great guy and very interesting to have as a person on the property. He's been very respectful, communicative, quiet and nice to have around. He would be an asset to anyone who wanted to rent a space to him.
