I had a very comfortable stay with Urs and family. Though in the midst of their very family oriented home I felt at the same time that I had all the privacy and space that I needed. The neighborhood is quiet and felt very safe, with the ferry into Halifax only about a 10 minute walk. For me the main attraction was the immediate proximity of the Holiday Inn Harbourside where I was attending a training event, so the location couldn't have been better.
I was met with nice hot cup of tea. Need I say more. The room was as described. In addition parking was available at no extra cost. For me the best attribute of the accommodation was the easy access to excellent public transportation to downtown Halifax via ferry or bus. Either option is about a three minute walk from the house.
I've spent two pleasant nights at Urs's place. The room was comfortable and very big, and the private bathroom was definitly a bonus. Urs and his family were very accomodating and quick to help, and the apartment is, as advertized, very close to the ferry. If you're looking for a nice, comfortable and affordable place to explore the area, then this is the place for you.
Urs was very nice and the room was as advertised. Great location - very close to a ferry the runs downtown every 15-30 minutes.
It was a great place to stay and quite big room. Urs and Uno are very fridenly and try to help as much as needed.
Urs, his wife and Children were kind and sociable. Urs faithfully made us pancakes each morning, however we tended to wake up late and would go eat out anyway. The kids are gifted in their music, but practice time generally ended up being around 9-10:30 at night. The sleeping arrangements were private enough. Musical instruments were available for use. It was definitely cluttered and a bit messy. But if you aren't looking for a place to get away, but just sleep instead, then its a reasonable location.
My stay at Urs' house was a great experience. He and his family were really nice hosts and I enjoyed my stay with them.
I arrived rather late but Urs picked me up at the bus station anyway. His pancakes are delicious and you feel very welcome in his house. He offers help in every situation you need it and it's impressing to listen to his stories.
Thank you Urs&Co :)
Urs and Yunong were kind and friendly hosts. The neighbourhood was super accessible and seemed safe. The room was large (for just myself) and clean, as was the bathroom. I agree with another reviewer that the common spaces could be tidier (e.g. kitchen), but overall this is clearly a relaxed, happy, creative family who are generous in their welcome to guests.
If you go to bed early, you might fall asleep to the sounds of Urs and his cute kids jamming on various musical instruments - this didn't bother me (how nice for a dad to be so involved with his kids and not leaving them to rot in front of video games!), but it might be something to consider for light sleepers. I had a lovely stay, thanks guys! :)
