I do not know where to begin. This was our first stop of our two week tour of Italy, and as it winds down it is safe to say no one made us feel as much at home as Carlo and his wife did during our stay. The pictures do not do the view justice. We have seen picturesque landscapes from Piedmont, Tuscany, Lazio, Umbria and South Tyrol, but there are not many like Carlo's. We arrived after an 8 hour flight from New York, and a quick stop in Torino, to a bottle of wine and an apartment with a balcony overlooking the rolling hills and grapevines of Monteferrato. After waking up to the faint sounds of roosters crowing and donkeys braying, Carlo took us just a short walk away to his friend Paolo's vineyard. We enjoyed a 3 hour tasting with excellent wine, meats and cheeses and stimulating conversation (one of the highlights of our trip). We left with an excellent story and new friends. We have seen Montepulciano in Tuscany, Spoleto in Umbria, Portofino in Liguria, and none of them match the beauty of Piedmont. Carlo is better than advertised. A must stay.
Carlo and his family are great hosts, they made us feel most welcome with great food, conversation and accommodation. In a quiet rural spot this is a very happy place. And if, like us you like to practice your Italian then it couldn't be better. Grazie mille Carlo and all!
Carlo was the perfect host. Him and his wife, Rosella, were quick to respond to our request to book. When we came, he was there waiting for us. His house is located in, what our Italian tour guide, calls "wineyards." If you're into wine, or a great view of nature and vineyards, this is it.
He also has a lovely dog, Teo, and a donkey which will greet you when you come. We felt comfortable right away. Our rooms were clean, cozy, and well equipped with the essential bedding and bathroom gels. He also introduced us to his good friends who produces wines. We had a great tasting and ended up buying 7 bottles!
We were hungry and even though some restaurants were closed, we were grateful that Carlo and Rosella called until they found a good one that was opened.
In all, we had a very comfortable and authentic Italian stay with a lot to learn from a very wise Carlo, who speaks enough English for us to have a great conversation! A definite recommendation!
Carlo and Rosella were absolutely fabulous and could not have been more welcoming. Their cooking was amazing and we all loved it! We have two kids, 7 and 11 year old and they were thrilled with the food, the room, with just everything! Like my 11 year old said we would give them a million stars rating but we will have to stick with the max 5 stars the website allows. Carlo was so nice and took us to great wine tastings and a truffle hunt. It was the perfect intro to Italy for us and cannot say enough good things about their wonderful hospitality. Can't wait to return!!
Carlo and Rossella were incredible hosts.
Besides their incredible, cozy place, the delicious food (and ohmygosh amazing Italian coffee), and adorable animals (they have a donkey, a dog, AND a kitten, y'all), they are really warm and generous people who actually want you to have an amazing time.
Take me, for example: A British-American gal coming from Chicago looking to explore the country side of Italy. I travelled alone, I didn't have a car, and I had a long list of things I wanted to do while in Italy.
Carlo not only took me truffle hunting, took long walks with me, introduced me to all of his amazing neighbours, AND took me wine tasting, but he also took me to Asti, picked me up from and dropped me off to the train station, showed me how to cook Italian meals, had long conversations with me, and made me feel like part of the family.
I also had the pleasure of participating in Sunday dinner filled with friends and family and I felt so blanketed with Italian love!
Honestly, if you stay here, you won't regret it. You'll make friends for life in Carlo and Rossella and you'll love your stay. AND the view! Oh my gosh the view! Molto figo :o)
