I am the office manager of this beautiful farm. Benjamin "Nick" Colby is the owner.
This house was quite a surprise. Up on a hill, among sheep and swallows, it seemed likely to be an old farmhouse. Instead it is a contemporary building with unusual modern technology: Japanese paper-less toilets, radiant floor heating, passive solar heating. The temperature inside was perfect. We felt comfortable walking around barefoot on the tile. The big windows made the main room feel light and spacious.
Nick was really friendly and ready to tell us anything we wanted to know about the house, the property, and his studies. I only wish we had had more time to talk to him and see the animals.
We had a wonderful stay on Nicks farm. The landscape is beautiful and the farm house a wonderful design. Listening to the frogs on the lake at night and looking at the stars was very peaceful. Nick showed us around the farm and my daughter loved to feed the lambs. Nick is a big sustainability advocate and his philosophy and area of study very interesting.
An architecturally progressive farmhouse, built with care for the environment. This structure is not just a retreat for the guests choosing to stay close to the Sonoma coast, but also the heard of sheep and swallows they share the land with. Nick the host is a retired cultural anthropology professor with an impressive library, which he shares with guests. Very peaceful night with the sheep and the stars, it would be a great place for those interested in star gazing as well.
We really enjoyed this beautiful farm spot! We enjoyed our visit with Nick. The place itself was comfortable, clean, easy to get to and had a wonderful view. We went into Bodega Bay for dinner and had coffee in Valley Ford.
Swallow Valley Farm is such a peaceful and serene location for a getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. We greatly enjoyed our stay here and the peace that came along with it. Watching the swallows at sunrise was beautiful. Everything was very clean and the host was incredibly friendly.
My stay at Swallow Valley Farms was amazing! We got to interact with Nick a bunch of times and it was a pleasure to be able to pick his brain about the manuscript that he was writing. We even got some fresh eggs delivered to our doorstep after our first night! It was such a pleasant surprise. I high recommend a stay here if you are looking for a nice weekend get away.
Great and comfortable stay. We were lucky enough to come when the lambs were being born.
We had a fantastic time at the farm. Nick, the owner, was a great host. He shared with us his plans for his farm, showed us around. Waking up in the morning and watching the sheep next to the pond, was amazing. Biking to the near-by village for coffee and breakfasts was a delight. We all would love to be back!
This farm is amazing. Beautiful. Quiet. Perfect for a quick getaway from the city. Also love that the house is sustainably built.
The house is very new, so the furniture is a bit sparse in the main kitchen area, if you are planning on using that area. I'm sure it'll be filled in no time. But the area where the rooms were was great!
Farm was expansive and peaceful, huge clear starry sky views at night. Sheep and chickens to visit. Host was very kind and offered his knowledge about the wildlife on the property. Huge views of the surroundings, lots of windows. Like new condition of the property, rooms and bathrooms were spotless. Everything was built solid and near soundproof. Very comfortable place to get a way from it all... thanks
