I'm a PhD candidate at UT Austin in the Department of Geography and the Environment. I travel a lot for my work and studies; thank goodness. I spend most summers on the island of Crete digging up the vestiges of Europe's first civilization, the Minoans. I'm the field director of the archaeological site Mochlos ((website hidden)) and publish the groundstone tools from there. I also work in Turkey and in Belize and Guatemala. During the school year I present papers at the national geography and archaeology meetings which are usually held in one of the many great American cities. I imagine most of my Air B&B stays will fall under conference travel.
I'm from a small town in North Carolina and absolutely, stubbornly love the Old North State through and through.
I'm into what I study, water resources and society, in a sort of hobby meets work situation (perhaps work destroys time for hobby is more appropriate in my case...). When I can swing it, i like fishing and camping. I love both the mountains and the coast. I find the places where you have both, where the mountains seeming fall into the sea are the most beautiful places I've laid eyes on. I also love bicycle touring. I also like reading things not related to my studies, namely travel writers. I love John McPhee and I'm currently obsessed with Patrick Leigh Fermor (he observes life, equilibrates, then taps into its best and richest qualities).
I'm also lucky enough to be engaged to a wonderful woman named Paige. Well, those are the nuts and bolts of me at present.
