The cottage is well located, clean, close to shops, taxi to take us to the beach (we recommend Winnifred, free beach where lobster is delicious, go to the left on entering the restaurant on the beach).
We were quickly put to the rhythm of Jamaican life in this popular area where people are lovely and welcoming.
The place is safe. Valry and Jean are very friendly also. If you want to connect to the Wifi, go to the Marina ...
We would have liked to stay longer but it was already booked.
We hope to come back again.
Response from B. Jean:
Lovely couple, both are adventurous and seem to love Port Antonio.
They were wonderful guests and it was my pleasure to host them, I hope they come back again. Beverlee Jean
We can't say enough wonderful things about this place. This beautiful cottage is very well kept, very homey, cozy and comfortable. It is extremely clean. We hated to leave but most definitely will be back. Everyone is extremely friendly and we felt very safe.
Suggestions for travellers of the area - Anna Banana is a wonderful Restaurant and the Blue Lagoon is an experience I am grateful I did not miss....ask for Dean at the Blue Lagoon. He will drive you out to Monkey Island private beach for as long as you like, then tour the Blue Lagoon and mineral bath. He will treat you royally - he is very honest, kind and will not steer you wrong.
To Beverllee - our wonderful host, thank you ever so much for everything :)

We had a wonderful month in this Country Cottage.
A very nice and clean house a short walk from the town center and a few minutes with car/taxi to beaches and sights to see.
We tought we would travel to other places in Jamaica, but we found out that Port Antonio had enough to entertain us. Beautiful beaches and nature, falls, fishing, walks in the surroundings, great foods and big marketplace. Neighbours are very friendly and helpful.
The hostess did everything to make us have a great time, and we really had!
A great place to stay!
Big thanks from Silje and Linus
I spent two nights and three days at Country Cottage. This cottage is very cute, very clean and very comfortable. It's centrally located in the middle of Port Antonio, in a true local neighborhood. I felt safe at all times as the house is safely secured, the neighbors are very friendly and hospitable. There's also a little store right across from the backyard (back street), my boyfriend and I were able to find there everything we needed to cook an entire meal, Jamaican style of course: chicken, spices, rice, vegetables, oil, etc. This is what i love about renting apartments, you have access to the kitchen and can cook your own meals. The kitchen at Country Cottage was well equipped with all the main utensils and we were able to cook and have a lovely diner. The only thing that was a bit negative was the noise at night and early in the morning, it wasn't enough to make our stay a bad experience but enough to not give Country Cottage a full 5 star review. It didn't bother us too much, but just a warning for any light sleepers and/or families traveling with kids. Even with that, I would definitely stay again at Country Cottage since I loved the place and location. Also the hostess was very helpful and called to check up on us throughout our stay. Thanks!
A Little Gem in a local community - Wonderful!!
We found Country Cottage on the internet whilst looking for a non-commercial place to stay in Portland during our road trip around Jamaica.
When we arrived we were greeted by Valerie who lives across the street from the house. Valerie and her relative Oney were both on call for absolutely everything, they were very attentive and courteous but not intrusive.
The house is a typical Jamaican style bungalow and has been decorated to a good standard for guests' comfort & pleasure. This well-equipped house is situated a short distance from the coastal road on the edge of Port Antonio town; the journey time to town is approximately 5-10 minutes by car and about a 20 minute walk on foot, there is also a beach nearby within walking distance. There were quite a few local places to eat and rum bars too - everything we needed for our stay.
We very much enjoyed staying in a community rather than a commercial or upmarket place on the coast or in town which we have done before and paid so much more, it was just nice to chill and hang out with the locals.
We would highly recommend this house and we will most definitely stay again!
It was also a pleasure to communicate with Mrs Jean during our booking process and while we were in Jamaica.
