Guesthouse in Choc Bay, St. Lucia
We were at the Boiled Frog just two nights so unable to fully enjoy what Steve and Danelle have created. Steve was especially good communicating with me prior to arrival and helpful in suggesting a rental car company.
Had a great stay. Relaxing atmosphere with lots of help when requested but Steve and Danielle (or the kids!) were NEVER invasive. We particularly appreciated the idea that breakfast was included BUT that we had in i the cottage. Danielle made sure that the fridge was stocked and we could have our breakfast in the privacy of the cottage on our own schedule. Also the proximity of the beach with next to no traffic (and if so almost all locals) was a real plus for me. The B&B is not Sandals if that's what you are expecting but your not paying Sandals prices either. Also, I for one was not looking to be housed up in an enclave of tourists. Other than living with a St. Lucian, I would think that this is the closest that you can get to experiencing island (website hidden). Lucia in general is more for relaxing and still retains its old-world charm as compared to the other islands that I have visited.
From the beginning stages of the trip planning process all the way up to our last morning there, Steve and Danielle were incredibly friendly and so helpful. The greeted us upon arrival with a cold beer and a delicious meal, and from that point on, we felt right at home. We rented the Cottage, which is the larger, free-standing room of the 3 that are offered at the Boiled Frog. With a grocery store just a short walk away, and our own kitchen, we felt like we had our own apartment in paradise (which was great, because there are not a lot of bars/restaurants in the immediate area, but busses and taxis are readily available all time, so you don't feel stuck). These guys seem to have great relationships with many local businesses, from dive shops to sight-seeing tours, and are happy to point you in the right direction based on what you're looking for. And if you don't feel like venturing out for dinner on any given night, they'll typically offer a delicious home cooked meal for a small additional fee! These guys make it easy. That, and they're just an all-around nice family, which always adds to the experience. We hope to make it back down there and highly recommend the Boiled Frog Guesthouse to anyone who wants to visit St. Lucia on a more intimate level than what is offered at the all-inclusive resorts.
What a fantastic one week stay! Danielle, Steve and their boys welcomed me like family. Enjoying the ocean breeze and views while lounging on the large veranda, sharing conversations with their family and other guests over breakfast or Danielle's tasty dinners, and sleeping to the sounds of the ocean, made my stay unforgetable. Thank you all for a great stay and your friendship!!! See you soon.
Steve was a wonderful host. From the turn by turn landmarked directions to the hospitality while we stayed, he and his family really pulled out all of the stops to ensure our comfort. Danielle made an awesome seafood chowder the night we arrived. Add a bit of the local spiced rum, with great conversation about some interesting facts about the island and some great recommendations on places to go/see, made for a great night indeed. I encourage you to experience the Boiled Frog for yourself, surely you won't be disappointed...
One of the top vacation experiences of my life. Steve and Danielle made me feel comfortable, welcome and cared for. The accommodations are beautiful, the setting suitable for a postcard. I can't wait to go back.
We arrived before Christmas and after a week, we decided to extend our stay for a couple more at chez boiled frog. This is due to the view from the gazebo, the convenience of the location (no vehicle needed), and the many unexpected amenities. It seems Steve and Danielle are flexible with dates, rooms and fitting guests' changing plans into their schedules, though as word gets out I'm sure that will change, and they will be booked to the gills. In fact I hesitate to say any more for fear that next season there will be no room at the inn!
Not to end on a national note, but the Canadian in me feels right at home....this also goes for my Filipina wife.
