My experience was great with Tony. The place was very clean and neat, the location was perfect for exploring and attending the Walter E. Washington convention center.
I was new to Airbnb and didn't know what to expect on my 5-day stay in Washington. I was on a business trip, but wanted to be away from 24/7 work. I made a fantastic choice when I stayed at Tony's. The neighborhood felt safe and had places to eat/hang. Catching a cab on the corner never took more than 3 minutes. Tony was quick to respond to any of my pre-arrival questions, extremely helpful, and really cool to be around once I arrived. He offered a private room and a foldout bed (which still had a surprising amount of privacy). I was scheduled to start on the foldout and move to the room. I choose to stay on the foldout because I liked the openness of the area. The apartment is immaculate, and Tony is an experienced host so he was prepared to answer all the questions I might have, such as the wifi password, when I arrived. I was made so comfortable I never felt shy about asking. He knew what a guest was likely to need and even had a guide book online! I have to mention his dog, Dolce, who is super sweet and well-behaved, quite the charmer. I would recommend Tony's highly and would stay there again. I can't think of a negative point to bring up, I enjoyed my stay that much. Thanks, Tony, for a wonderful first-time Airbnb experience.
The host definitely made me feel welcomed. The property is located in a great area with restaurants and metro station right in walking distance. It was very easy to get to the property from Reagan National using the metro. Tony is very helpful and detailed. It was easy to communicate with him. His hospitality is incredible. This was my first Airbnb experience and it was great. He has set a high standard for my future Airbnb stays. I will definitely be staying at Tony's again anytime I'm in the D.C area and I highly recommend his place.
I had a wonderful stay at Tony's -- Tony is warm, welcoming, and funny, and his dog Dolce was my favorite! I stayed in the living room and was comfortable (as other reviewers have mentioned, single travelers would do best in the living room. Couples should book the guest room). Tony's place is super clean and beautiful. Location was perfect as I had a conference at the Convention Center. Just follow the house rules and be respectful of the space, it's really not that hard. Will definitely be back.
Tony was a great host. The place was immaculate, very conveniently located, and Tony went out of his way to make me feel at home.
Tony is the consummate host! His row house is immaculately clean and well cared for. The mattress in the spare bedroom is extremely comfortable and is high quality. The location is unbeatable. His house dog is gentle and unobtrusive. I recommend staying with Tony in DC!
PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE THIS REVIEW. THIS REVIEW CAN SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. It was a significantly horrible experience we ever had. Tony, our host, was overly sensitive and picky. Before arriving his house, he tried to change our air bnb contract not to give private room. And also, Tony sent TOO MANY messages to me constantly. The messages were so irritating us enough to completely messed up our trip. When we arrived his house, it was midnight. We were exhausted but he insisted to go over every single house rule which kept us awake way past 1:00 am and check out was at 9:00 am. Furthermore, even if 9:00a.m. was too early check out time than usual, he forced us to go out his house earlier than 9:00a.m. Staying in his room was also extremely uncomfortable for us. He micromanaged everything. He monitored our every behavior. Tony wanted us not to use anything in his house. As I said, we arrived in Tony's house at midnight. We wanted to take a rest at that time. But, we couldn't take a rest because Tony bothered us so much. He knocked the door TOO MANY times and it made us crazy. I think he wanted to check everything is okay in a every minute. I knew there are a lot of antiques which are expensive in the house including the guest room, but that does not necessarily justify his unpleasant and continuous behaviors because I paid for 135 dollars for only 8 hours. I couldn't take a rest at all in his house. I am still regretting my decision that choosing his house. I have confidence that his house is not worth even one lousy penny. It was sincerely uncomfortable.
Tony's place was lovely.
The best part was the neighborhood. Great area, quiet, tree-lined, trendy tasty restaurants peppered around. Very close to DC convention centers which I needed. Only a 5 min cab ride.
Wifi in the room was a bit slow...videos will time out several times, even short ones. That could be better.
Tony is very kind, but a bit meticulous about small details. I was there one night and it all worked out well.
Tony was very helpful, and keeps his place spotless. His experience shines through and that all but guarantees you won't run into unexpected issues during your stay -- he lives to make his guests comfortable during their trips. I'd definitely stay there again!
While on the surface, Tony's house appeared clean, my grandma noticed thick layers of dust over all of the decorations on his wall, as well as on top of the shelves in the room that we stayed in. Despite this, Tony was very adamant about us leaving no trace of our passing: every time we used the sink, we were to use a tiny piece of toilet paper to wipe it clean of stray drops. A bit overkill on the house rules, in all honesty. It was rather tense; at every moment of our stay my grandma and I feared that we would forget a tiny detail and end up incurring a fee of some sort. Thankfully, we were out of the house by 9 am and only returned by 9 pm; had we planned on spending more time inside the house, I do not think that we would have fared well. At no point in our stay did we feel welcome; we always felt like intruders despite having paid quite a sum to live here. There's also no cooking in his kitchen to save money during a vacation so be on the lookout for cheap places to eat for every meal.
Tony rents out his sofa in the living room at the same time as his room. During our stay, a random stranger was situated right next to the door and we had to eat out for breakfast and tiptoe crazily when we had to leave for our early morning flight. We didn't plan on having to work around someone else which wasn't very pleasant on a vacation; it was rather stressful. Note also that there is also only one bathroom for the house, meaning it is shared between four people (potentially five if two share the sofa).
Tony seemed interested in our plans and offered advice upon where to go, which was rather helpful. His advice about the MARC train was helpful and could save future travelers quite some money. His house is also located in a nice area that's a short walk or Uber ride away from central DC tourist spots. However, in conclusion, living in Tony's house was somewhat anxiety inducing. If you're planning on staying away all day, are fine with spending some extra money to eat out for every meal, and aren't anxious about rules, this place might be a better fit for you than it was for us.
