The service and quality of the appartment was perfect. In addition the location is fantastic, because of all the bars and dance clubs which are nearby, for example "the watergate".
+ Gute Wohnung, gut ausgestattet, gute Lage (nähe U2), guter Service.
- ein bißchen viel Baustellen in der nahen Umgebung.
The apartment was clean and almost as described, but our experience with the host was terrible.
After travel delays forced us to cancel the first check-in time (2 hours
before) and we came 20 minutes late to the 9pm reschedule, Steffen was not at the apartment and refused to check us in that first night.
Communication that first night was sporadic and difficult. Steffen never
answered his emergency phone number, and correspondence over airbnb was slow, expensive (lots of data roaming charges) and upsetting (he was very insulting, repeatedly calling me names, and demanding cash deposits in hundreds of Euros for his inconvenience in order to check us in). In the end, we had to rent a hotel the first night, and spend a lot of time on the phone (again, expensive) with Airbnb the next day, who eventually convinced us to check-in on day 2.
Steffen sent a colleague who was very pleasant for check in on day 2,
and the apartment was nice, except that the wifi was non-functional, and this was the one critical amenity we had confirmed before booking the reservation. All in all, however, the neighborhood was nice and the stay in the apartment itself was fine until we checked out, and the host
began sending insulting emails again, accusing me of losing the keys and calling me the stupidest person he had every met.
I am sure that if there are no hitches, this is a fine Airbnb rental,
Steffen repeatedly informed me of how many rentals he manages and how many hundreds of guests he serves, so I am sure he is a professional and efficient when nothing goes wrong. But like other reviewers, I was unlucky enough to have a challenging check in, and this ended up being a very unpleasant affair.
My colleagues and I use Airbnb quite a bit and are generally very happy with it, but this experience has changed the way I read reviews before booking.
The reservation was canceled 23 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Jan 2013 While there are many good things about the apartment itself, Steffen made our check-in and check-out painfully difficult.
First the good: my wife, my 4-y-o daughter and I were comfortable in this conveniently-located flat. We enjoyed the bathtub, the extra bed (thank you, Steffen), and the kitchen. We found it to be quiet, and we slept well.
The bad: though we buzzed the door many times, somehow we missed each other for 6pm check-in. When we called him to find out where he was, he was very rude, told us we had to wait 'till 9pm plus pay an additional 100 Euros(!), and hung up the phone mid-conversation! Wow, not a friendly welcome!
Fortunately we found a place to wait out of the rain and cold. By phone, Air BnB assured us that Steffen was not allowed to charge an extra 100 Euros just because he wanted to.
On check-out we agreed to meet Steffen and return the keys. We waited 30 minutes past check-out time. He did not show up. We tried to call him using the phone in the apartment. The phone doesn't work! We had a plane to catch, and finally we had to leave without ever seeing him. The whole situation was very frustrating.
In addition, though more minor: we were disappointed to find that the oven door handle was completely broken. (It's hard to use an oven without a handle.) And though the place in general was tidy, there was mold on the walls of the shower.
Overall, we had a great time in Berlin, but dealing with Steffen was very unpleasant. If we could do it again, we would choose to deal with (and pay our money to) someone else.
Our stay in berlin was good. The flat is as described, clean, calm and confortable, very convenient location, close to the most touristic sites, and close to the subway entrance (U2). Everything you need was in the flat (even a baby bed for our 11 month child). The little drawback was no shutter on the windows, and the neighbourhood is not very animated, not a lot of shops, but one supermarket was very closed that was a good point nevertheless.
Wifi was working good.
Steffen welcomed us in the flat and for our departure, Steffen organised a convenient key handover because we were leaving quite early on the morning for a January 1st !
Thank you Steffen
The apartment was great, very centric and in a quite street. The communication with Steffen was quick and easy. Times of checking out were flexible. Would always go back.
Steffen is a kindful guy and the apartment is located very near to the center city, few minutes from Spittelmarkt station (U2), 10-12 minutes on foot from Gendarmenmarkt Platz.
The apartment is clean, calm and confortable !! Everything was perfect :-))
I'm sure to come back there for my next visit to Berlin ;-))
Found this apartment perfect for our stay in Berlin. It is well located for public transport to access all major attractions.
It was most comfortable and welcoming to return to after a days sightseeing.
The wifi worked fine.
The kitchen was well equipped and apartment was very clean.
Great to have the supermarket and restaurants so close.
Thank you Steffen.
