Hello, I am Mauro, Welcome to my amazing homes. Please you can write in english o espanol!
Mauro was quick to respond to questions, was very helpful setting up arrival, his on-site assistant, Pablo also facilitated a positive experience at the flat.
This apartment was comfortable, exactly as described and within walking distance to restaurants and cafés.
If you have no Spanish speaking skills, you may fare better at an establishment with home language assistance.
The apartment was listed as "luxury suite". I beg to differ. It was certainly large containing a kitchen, living room, study, bedroom, and two bathrooms. But there were some serious problems that people should be aware of before renting this apartment. There is construction going on on the roof or top floor of the building and it is very noisy to say the least. I sent an email to the host and never received a response. The apartment is clean up to a point, but the bed quilt was not, neither were the pillows. One expects clean linens on the bed when renting an apartment. On the other hand the towels were clean. The resident person is very nice, but be warned he speaks no English. Bring a dictionary with you if you do not speak Spanish otherwise you will not be able to communicate with him.
When I chose this apartment over others, it was due to the description of it as a luxury flat in the historic part of Quito. With some adjustments this could be a really comfortable place to stay. While the street is not quiet, it offers a real sense of what Quito's old quarter is like. You will find little shops selling all sorts of things, and terrific bakeries within a short walk of the apartment.
Our stay at suite liceo was excellent! The apartment is well located, just minutes from Plaza Santo Domingo and the trolebus stop, and on a side street near many small groceries, bakeries and restaurants (guava bread, yum!). This was quite convenient for exploring Quito's old town and venturing further afield by foot or bus, which we found to be quite safe (as long as you pay attention to your surroundings) in addition to being cheap (25 cents/ride) and accessible. The apartment furnishings are also comfortable, clean and fully functional with a nice hot shower and well-equipped kitchen. Mauro and Pablo, the house butler, were great with organizing our super late and super early travels to and from the airport and Senor Cruz, the neighborhood taxi driver, was punctual and attentive on the road. Our one issue was with noise (heavy footsteps in boots and suitcase/furniture dragging for the better part of an hour) coming from the 2nd floor bedroom directly above us in the middle of the night hours before we had to be up to catch our also very early flight. However, this is not the host's fault, merely other inconsiderate guests. It might be worth checking whether the other apartment will also occupied during your stay or coordinating with people upstairs to avoid the disturbance. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend suite liceo.
We had a most wonderful stay at Suite La Loma (2nd floor). The bed was comfortable and bathrooms were clean. Safe neighborhood - there's a school around the corner and lots of cheap meals along Rocafuerte. Walking distance to all the magical parts of Colonial Quito and only a $3 cab ride to Mariscal district. Plus, the views!
Two minor annoyances: barking stray dogs during the day and our towels/wet clothes (we went during rainy season) didn't dry as fast as we needed them to.
Thanks Mauro for being an awesome (albeit virtual) host!
I have mixed reviews about my stay at suite Liceo, but it is due to my expectations and temporary activity at the apartments. For most travellers, this apartment is great. I had been travelling some time and was wanting to spend my last few days in Ecuador relaxing, catching up with emails, and staying in the apartment. Unfortunately, I was disturbed at 8:15am by banging and construction on the roof that went on until 4:15 each day. I had met with the owner the night of my arrival and had not been told about this. All previous communication had been very good, prompt and informative. However the introduction to the apartment was speedy. Also, during these days, the internet was not working, but did work in the evenings. For people using it as a home base for Quito exploration, these things would have been minor, but for me it was a larger inconvenience.
Aside from these (hopefully temporary) items, the apartment is well placed, clean and offer everything travellers would want. A short walk down the stairs to la Ronda, and numerous bodegas and local eateries on calle Rocafuerte for meals and in house (email hidden) selection and tv. Bed was comfortable and the water was hot. They had a portable heater available to take off the chill and the kitchen was adequately stocked - even a dishwasher. I loved the Italian espresso in the mornings.
Pablo, when I finally met him was very helpful. He just seemed away a lot.
Though they are very upfront about the resident pup, he is a barking watchdog when Pablo or others are not around, so if not used to pets, then reconsider. Also, as a single traveller, being on the first floor means there is more ability to be seen through the windows, and though told it was safe, people loiter across the street at the top of the stairs to la Ronda, so exercise caution when using them at night. Keep only a little cash and a throw away wallet - just in case. for the feeling of 'exposure' then ask for the apartment above. Also, the ravine below the apartment has several busy road arteries, so if not used to city noise, have good ear plugs.
Regardless of my negative comments, I would recommend the apartment and consider using it again.
We stayed twice and had both units once. Very comfortable and convenient. Pablo was also wonderful and accommodating in helping to arrange transportation with Carlos.
Suite Liceo met our needs perfectly. The location enabled us to see everything we wanted to see in the Old Town area and it was close to the hop-on-hop-off bus route. Pablo was very accommodating and friendly. Several in our group felt we had the best place in the neighborhood. We also even got to watch some Olympic coverage.
Great hospitality, location. The apartment is well equipped and beautiful .
The views fantastic.
Thanks for a great stay. Wish we had more than 2 nights to spend.
Communication great with Mauro. He even set up transport to the apartment from the new airport.
Great place, great location, amazing view. Would definately stay again. Short walk to La ronda with all the wonderful restaurants and also to historic center with all the churches and museums. Pablo and his"guard puppy" took great care of us and made us feel at home. Thanks for the wonderful stay.
Excelente huésped, muy tranquilo, respetuoso y aseado
Mauro is a great person and was my pleasure to have him in my apartment. He is more then welcome.
Mauro is great- he's very reliable, a great guy to hang out with and fluent in English, Spanish and Dutch. Also, I love his apartment- it's a really nice place if you want to be in the vibrant city center of Amsterdam!
