Great place and Jon was super accommodating. Would absolutely stay here again as this was exactly what my wife and I were looking for. Jon also had super helpful tips on what to do and where to eat ! Great experience!
This place is just beautiful.
It was exactly the vacation home we hoped for. The view from the penthouse suit is just breathtaking and the hot tub at the edge of the cliff is amazing.
The delicious breakfast every morning was a great way to start the day.
Thanks Jon for a wonderful week.
What a fabulous experience! Jon was very welcoming and friendly (not to mention super-responsive via email). The Bali Cottage is unbelievable. I was so impressed at the view - which can be seen from pretty much every space in the room. Jon thought of everything as far as amenities go - he provided ample towels (for both shower & pool), a hairdryer, filtered water, full kitchen cooking supplies and even some consumables (seasonings, sauces, bathroom supplies, etc.). Two thumbs up on this one. Would definitely stay here again!
WOW!!! First time using airbnb and we were blown away. The pictures and description do not do this place justice - clean, modern, comfortable, with a breathtaking view. Perfect spot for exploring the road to Hana and upcountry/Haleakala. John immediately made us feel comfortable and was very inviting and professional - really cool, laid back guy. Couldn't be improved in any way - perfect stay.
We had a spectacular stay at Cliff's Edge. The views from the Seaside Cottage are nothing short of breathtaking, and it was always a great feeling to arrive back at the cottage at the end of a long day of exploring. An incredibly peaceful, private, relaxing rental.
We loved the cottage's remote location, it was precisely what we were looking for, but if you're looking for a property on the beach or a boardwalk, this probably isn't for you. From the airport, it's about a 45-min drive, and Paia is about 25-min away (groceries and restaurants), and you can get just about anywhere on the island in an hour to an hour-and-a-half (which seems like a long time, but it's Maui--even driving around is a memorable experience).
The cottage is sheltered by tropical plants on either side to provide complete privacy from the surrounding houses, you'll really never even know they're there, unless you head over for a swim in the pool or a massage from the masseuse who lives in one of Jon's properties.
We had no issues with the cottage while we were there. The bed was comfortable, the house stayed cool at night, and the kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans. You will see an occasional tiny lizard scurrying away from you in the house, but you are in the jungle, so that's to be expected. It can get buggy out at night, so make sure you keep the screen door closed. Jon met us on the first day to show us the ropes, and was always reachable via text if we had any questions.
While you certainly don't need a Wrangler to get around the island, or to get to the property, my wife and I found our standard-size car rental to be a bit unwieldy (too wide and too low) on the Road to Hana and on the road to the property, which is paved about half the way, and then packed gravel the rest of the way. We thought either a smaller car, which could wind around the Road to Hana's often-one-lane road without feeling like you're going to fall off, or a mid-size SUV to keep you up off the ground would be best for Maui.
Jon has beach chairs and umbrellas in the cottage for when you head to the west side of the island. There are pool towels, but you may want to pick up some oversized beach towels when you stop for groceries before arriving.
I really can't overstate what an amazing trip this was, and it all centered around having this cliffside cottage with spectacular views to come home to every night.
Johns place is everything you think a Maui home should be. Amazing location and great value. Pickup groceries in Paia on your way. Great spot.
Such a magical and perfect place for our Maui vacation. Honestly, could not have asked for a more ideal location. Located right by the cutest town Paia, and right at the beginning of the Hana Highway, we were able to do it ALL. This is the perfect place if you are looking for a more authentic Maui vacation away from the super touristy areas. The house was amazing, we could have moved in and stayed forever! Many great nights in the hot tub listening to the waves crash below and enjoying the beautiful stars. We will definitely be back.
Jon met us on arrival and gave us a tour of the suite and grounds. The view is amazing and the room very comfortable. we enjoyed sitting on the deck overlooking the ocean and swimming in the pool while we figured out what to do each morning. There are many fun activities to do in the vicinity. listening to the waves crash below as you drift off to sleep in a very comfy bed is dreamy. from this location you also have a head start on driving the Hana Highway.
Jon's place is simply stunning. The view is incredible, and the location is off the Maui beaten path in a great way. This is not a typical tourist experience, and gives a unique perspective into life on a subtropical island. Highly recommended.
