Caroline and her mother stayed in my home for 2 nights. Airbnb usually brings me lovely guests- gracious, appreciative, and ready to treat my home as if it is their own. On very rare occasions, I end up with a guest who is probably better suited for a hotel. Caroline seemed nice, but her mother was full of complaints and criticisms.
The very first thing she said to me when I greeted them was “well, we have a complaint already” (the complaint was regarding my directions- which start at the bottom of my driveway and end at my front door- They had apparently gotten mixed up several miles up the road…and somehow that was my fault).
I ask my guests to leave a note with any suggestions of how to make the house better- they left a laundry list of complaints. They complained that I did not have paper napkins (There was a stack in the pantry). They complained that there were no tissues (there were 2 brand new boxes above the fridge). They complained that there were not enough towels (I left out 6 clean bath towels, 6 clean wash cloths and 4 clean hand towels for their 2 night stay). They complained that one of the toilets runs sometimes (it is an antique bathroom with all original fixtures, so, yeah- it runs sometimes). They complained about noise from the road- I live in a very rural town, there are virtually no cars after dark. My partner summed it up pretty well. He said, “some people will come here and look out the windows and see the beautiful mountains, the sky, the birds, the tress, the water…. others will see the thin line of telephone wires going across the view.”
I enjoyed hosting Caroline and her friend Terran (sp?). They were pleasant, flexible and easy going. We had some good conversations, and hung out a while over breakfast. I would be happy to host Caroline again again.
Loved having Caroline and Scott visit us. We ended up playing Diamond Bridge at our kitchen table into the evening! These are two smart, interesting, flexible and authentic people. Hope they will come back. They showed up before I ever saw their request but it really was no problem. That was Caroline doing some creative thinking (they were going to camp but it was quite wet and mucky our). We are spontaneous people so we were glad to have them.
