My wife and I are professors.
We're interested in business, entrepreneurship, politics, and enjoy watching film and theatre. We've lived in New York CIty for over 30 years.
Although I meet Mr. Bedi only one day, he was extremely helpful.
His apartment is a very warm place to stay and it is extremely well located.
For someone visiting Columbia University, this is as close to the university as it can get. Just 2 min walk from the main gate. Very convenient location. Nice hosts. Although the room is small for 2 people. Its meant either for couples or single person.
Couldn´t be closer to Columbia uni and also it couldn´t be a better basis to explore New York.
I enjoyed it very much to stay at Sushamand and Rahuls place and will definitely come again. Very lovely hosts. 5 Stars.
I stayed Bedi's place for a week. It's an amazing experience. The location is perfect to catch a subway and taxis. I enjoyed to walk around the beautiful collage town. There is a little refrigerator, a perfect closet, a drawer and a computer desk, They are very useful for visitors. I had to attend my son's performance. (He is an opera singer/student) I could prepare for attending with a fancy dress in this room.
Mrs. and Mr.Bedi are very friendly and kind. I enjoyed to talk with Mr.Bedi who has a sense of humor and Mrs.Bedi who is interested in other cultures. If you are a just sightseeing traveler or looking for a very fancy bed, I can tell you that you can go down to the midtown. But if you are interested in real NY life, there is! I truly recommend this place.
I enjoyed my stay with the Bedi's. I felt at home and got good advice about local transport systems. The Bedi's are friendly and generous to welcome you into their home. There is a fridge in the room and you have the use of the kitchen. Sharing a bathroom is not something that I am used to, but the Bedi's make sure you have privacy. As the ad states, you do not get closer to Columbia University and Columbia Teacher's College is only a ten minute walk. If the location is close to where you want to be, I will definitely recommend staying with the Bedi's.
Rahul and his wife were very kind and hospitable hosts. The area is fantastic, the house is old and beautiful, and the apartment was decorated with wonderful carpets and animal skins. Thanks.
Pros and Cons for this accommodation. The pros are: pleasant non-intrusive hosts, close to Columbia campus, secure building with elevator, safe neighbourhood, fair sized room with fridge, TV and air conditioner. Apartment is at back of building and away from street noise.
Cons are: old building with old plumbing and frightening wiring! Bed is most uncomfortable - it's a flattened sofa bed topped by a thin mattress which does not disguise the ridge running down the middle. The air con is poorly fitted allowing drafts directly onto the bed. The only table is a computer station and only seating a wheeled typist chair. Not a kitchen to cook in - although I had free access to kettle and microwave. Subway and shops are on Broadway - a 7 minute walk through Columbia campus. It's a fair traipse back if you forget something.
This place is best for students or relatives visiting students for a few days. Those looking for a base to sight see NY for more than a few days would probably be better off paying a little more and getting accommodation nearer downtown - with a proper bed!
Tip: The best shops on Broadway start around 113th Street - so walk down a little. And if you get a chance, check out Riverside Church opposite Grant's Memorial - it's amazing and not well known.
Rahul and Susham are lovely hosts, and I was lucky to find a room on the same block as the conference hall in Columbia!
Aside from an initial problem with my check-in date (the room was occupied when I arrived), I had a very pleasant extended stay with Rahul. The proximity to Columbia/Barnard and the subway was perfect for me. The neighborhood was quiet, friendly and safe. The amenities including an elevator, WIFI, and a fridge in the bedroom were all very much appreciated.
My friend and I are visiting students at Columbia University. We have stayed here one mouth. The area is very safe. Columbia University 24-hour security guard stationed on either side of street, so I usually study in the library until midnight. It just takes me 5 minutes by walking to go to the university. The room is big enough for 2 people. The bed is very comfortable and large. There is a desk and a mini fridge in the room, and they are very useful to us. The bathroom is clean. Besides, the cleaner often comes and clean the room. Better still, Rahul and Susham are so kind. Rahul is full of wisdom with his unique style of humor. Susham is very genial. We always talking and watching TV together at free time. They told something about American culture and introduced many beautiful places to us and we learned a lot. What's more, they invited us to join their party and even go to the theatre. We live with them as real family members, So my friend and I appreciate it. I think we are so lucky that we can find such great hosts and such good apartment. Everything is fantastic and convenient to us. This apartment is the best choice for visiting students!
1. It is very close to the 1 line subway station;
2.There are a lot of restaurants in Amsterdam AV and Broadway AV, they are all close to the apartment, so don't worry about your stomach,
3. It has a big supermarket in broadway AV and 116th.
I was happy to host Rahul and his family. They are nice, friendly people who take care good of your place. Rahul has a flat in Manhattan, and I'd be surely happy to stay with them if I went to visit N.Y.
Rahul was an interesting and considerate guest, a pleasure to talk to and we would welcome him back anytime.
