I was born in Ankara, raised in Vancouver and Montreal. I studied in Toronto and now I have been living for 4 years in Istanbul. I am currently doing my masters in visual art at Sabanci University.
The apartment is awesome - comfortable and the location is unbeatable. The Sunday market in the neighborhood is not to be missed. Ece is a great host and responsive to any issue or question.
Staying at Ece's apartment was wonderful! It's a very big, two floor place, located in walking distance from Taksim square and Istiklal St., with a fully equipped kitchen and great balcony.
Ece - although in Canada at the time - provided us with many useful information, maps and great suggestions. Wish we could've stayed longer. Next time.
We had a wonderful stay at Ece's. The location was great and walking distance from Taksim. Ece was in Canada at the time but still manage to send as a wonderfully detailed message with anything we might need to know ad also have everything prepared for us. The apartment is a great place to come back to after a long day - I highly recommend!
Our stay at Ece's apartment couldn't have been lovelier. The location was absolutely perfect and Ece's flatmate Hannah provided some amazing suggestions that made out first visit to Istanbul absolutely magical. Highly recommended.
This place is great! Beautiful, homey, lots of amenities, centrally located. And Ece is a generous and relaxed host, not to mention an awesome person to hang out with. Highly recommended!
Ece was a great host! The apartment was very clean and comfortable. My friend and I definitely enjoyed our stay. The place is also in a very convenient location, for which we were very grateful. If I go back to Istanbul (and I really hope that I will!) I will definitely contact Ece.
We stayed in Ece's beautiful 2-story apartment for the month of September and spent every morning and evening on the newly renovated terrace. The apartment is spacious, everything "works", it is beautifully appointed. It is very close to Istiklal, Taksim, metro, and funicular to tram. We loved shopping every Sunday at the fresh food market a block away and cooked most of our meals in as the kitchen was well set up for eating in. We can highly recommend Ece's apartment to anyone interested in staying in this part of Istanbul.
My sister and I spent 9 nights at Ece's place. Before Ece's place, I stayed at a hostel in Sultanahmet (Old City) for a night. While Sultanahmet is an overly crowded with tourists area, Ece's neighborhood is local and quiet, but just a close proximity to all the actions 'New Istanbul' has to offer (Istiklal Caddesi, Cihangir, Tophane, Galata, Besiktas) yet just accessible to Old City and Asian side by public transportation.
Transportation wise, you have all the access to historic tramway (along Istiklal Cd.), Funiculars/Tunel for Taksim-Kabatas (Dolmabahce Palace) and Beyoglu-Karakoy (the route we regularly use to get to Old City, and modern tramway (to get to all the tourist site in Old City. Blue Mosque, Ayasofya, Grand Bazaar, etc). It's normally a short 5-10 minutes walk to get to Tunel, the mode of transportation we rely on everyday. In Taksim Sq. (which is a short 10~15 minutes walk from Ece's place) you can take Dolmus (shared van-taxi) to the Asian side (time saving!), or take the ferryboat from Eminonu or Karakoy.
If you're up for fun evening stroll, try walking down from Istiklal to Galata and all the way down to Karakoy tram stop.. Lots of cute and interesting shops, cafe to see. Then make your way by foot to Galata Bridge for sunset!
The house and apartment itself is airy, sunny and definetely artistic! A number of art pieces decorates the room and the whole apartment itself (drawings, sketches, vintage posters).. you'll easily get 'infected' by the artsy vibe. The master bedroom gets morning sunlight. This duplex is a little different now than what it looks like in the pictures provided here. Patio is now beautiful, perfect spot for lazy morning. Dining/lounge area upstairs has bigger space, with dining table & chairs. I personally love lounging on the Turkish style cushions(?). Another fav spot of mine is in the kitchen.. seat on the low Turkish stool and feel the wind blowing on your face :-)
Ece's roommate is also wonderfully sweet and versatile conversationlist. We went for lunch together at Cihangir on our very last day in Istanbul.
Though I wished the doors/keys could be much easier to operate, I'd recommend Ece's place to anyone and would consider coming back!
Ece is an awesome person! Very laid back, unjudgemental and probably one of the best people anyone could meet. Her flat is an artistic, well decorated and warm and is EXTREMELY close to Taksim.
