We absolutely loved staying in Michelle's home! She picked us up from the airport and circled all the of the best places to explore on a map for us. We were able to travel the entire island with her car (great combo rental price!) I will say that if you decide to NOT rent Michelle's car (no idea why you wouldn't) then the price of the home increases by $10 a day, which isn't listed in the description. Her home is about 15 minutes from everything which was perfect for us, as we were able to enjoy scenery during the drives! Her car was amazing for us- we explored all of the places she suggested and more... If you see a dirt path, take it! The beaches are crazy insane beautiful... especially the ones not marked on the maps. We would have been unable to travel around the whole island without her car.
I will say that the roosters/dog barking reviews were very true... they start early around 3/4AM.... but with the air conditioning on it isn't so bad. I have dogs of my own so I am comfortable with noise, but for someone who isn't then it might be a little difficult to sleep. That is completely out of Michelle's control, and with wild animals running around all over the island you're bound to have some noises! Remember- you're on an island so there are bound to be some creepy crawlies around. Michelle's house is located in a safe, cute neighborhood and from the top of the hill you can see the ocean. She has really great friendly neighbors as well.
All in all, this was a great place for us to stay the night. We didn't spend much time in the house itself as we were off exploring the island, but at night it was perfect for sleeping. (Bring some games, cards, books with you... There is no cable TV so it brings you back to the good ol' days where you have to make conversation with people or entertain yourselves!) Michelle was also kind enough to take us back to the airport for our flight home for $10... saved us the trouble of calling a cab.
We would come back here in an instant and are looking forward to visiting again!
I loved this little cottage in the hills. There is a beautiful view of the ocean in the distance. Michelle was extremely helpful through out my entire stay. She picked me up from the airport and told me about all the best places to eat and all the best beaches to lay around on. We rented a car from her and it was so easy and great to have a car and a house bundled together. Michelle was always quick to respond, would drop everything and come to my assistance in need and was kind and generous. She has excellent customer service skills. With Michelle you get a real locals perspective and advice you can trust for a genuine Vieques experience.
We had a great time in Vieques and at Michelle's. She explained everything to us and circled all the good restaurants and beaches to try on a map. We also rented the jeep, it was great! The house is very clean, there is even a little cat visiting the porch every day:-) it s a little far from the sea and the restaurants but there are no houses on the beach anyway! I would return to Michelle's tomorrow!
This cozy little cottage is a short drive from all points of interest on the island. Michelle provided a really informative introduction with a detailed map. We rented an older jeep from her that handles great and looks 'local'; we felt right at home for 10 days of fun in the sun. Free range roosters nearby. Random visits from a cat, a dog and the occasional horse. Little lizards and hummingbirds around. Wifi works great but no cell service at the house. Priced right in a residential neighborhood.
Perched high upon a hill in a quiet section of the neighborhood, the cottage is ideal for your home away from home on Vieques.
A distant view of the Atlantic punctuated by the sounds of tree frogs, roosters crow and the occasional visit by a horse or two are all part of the charm.
The cabin was very clean and cute, it was perfect for what we were looking for. Michelle was very nice and attentive to our needs, and it is a great bonus that she will pick you up and drop you off at the airport. She took the time to explain the island to us and leave us a detailed map. Would definitely stay here again.
Warm welcome pickup at ferry by Michelle. How in perfect shape. Full kitchen with breakfast bar. 2 Br Perfect for four. Our fifth was on couch/futon in cozy living room with great TV with satellite. Nice outside shower next to new covered patio with table and chairs for eating. Also second separate bathroom with shower. Michelle and Juan's art fills the house with beauty (Juan's art was being shown at the fort in Isabella segunda; the couple runs a great local artisan/t-shirt stand on the Malecon). Available snorkels and kayaks for rent and beach chairs and coolers free of charge. 4x4 Cherokee for 4 day rental, treated well, got us to all places on the (website hidden) in bedrooms with new fans for all rooms kept us comfy at night and masked the tropical village noises. 5+ minute walk to stores and Malecon. Neighbor dog Linda kept us friendly company. 5 days and nights at Casa Esperanza washed away the New England winter blues. Thanks Michelle and Juan.
Michelle was a great host! We arranged for a pickup in town, the house was described accurately, and the car was the perfect bonus. The house is in a residential part of vieques, about 5 min drive into Isabel.
My friend and I stayed here during "Semana Santa" aka Easter Holy Week so their were fun activities happening around Vieques.
Michelle was a fantastic and accommodating host and Casa Caribe made the whole trip personal and authentic. When we had questions communication was easy and everyone on the island went out of their way to help.
The house itself is great for 2-3 people, has everything you’d need and is tucked away in a remote neighborhood. Should you need groceries or restaurant food, Isabel is an easy 25-30 minute walk. A taxi into Esperanza took about 20 minutes with other restaurant options and is a nice spot to watch the sunset. We did the biobay tour as well when we weren't lounging on some insane remote beach.
I hope to be back! Highly recommended.
My girlfriend and I stayed at Casa de Caribe for 4 nights in March. Michelle is an amazing host who very graciously picked us up from the airport and provided us with great advice about what to do on the island. Take her advice! The house is in the hills south of Isabel II tucked away in a great neighborhood. We were really able to experience the culture of the island.
We recommend renting some sort of transportation during your stay at Casa de Caribe, or find a publico that knows how to get to the house. We ended up renting a scooter is Esperanza (@ Fun Brothers) and we didn't need anything else. You can get anywhere on a scooter. We would definitely stay here again and hope we have the opportunity.
Very considerate and well-traveled guests will treat your home as well as their own. Don't hesitate to host them :)
Visited with Michelle at her quaint bungalow in Vieques, PR. Great location and nice house, just to get away from the world as we know it. A beautiful island with so many beaches, one more inviting then the other. Don't wait another minute, visit with Michelle and live life like a local. That what traveling in all about.
