Just returned to California the other night! Again, staying at your cottage was one of the most enchanting and memorable highlights of our road trip this time. We were saying how you are like Tinkerbell and your cottage is so fantastical in nature. Thanks so much for the all the tips of things to do in beautiful Nelson. We enjoyed dinner ideas on Baker Street and hikes in Kokanee Creek Provincial Park. The salmon spawn was amazing. We hope we can keep in touch and look forward to exploring more of Nelson and the Kootenays again in the future :)

We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our stay at Ivory Thistle Cottage. The house is furnished and decorated with obvious attention to detail, and the result is a cozy, peaceful, rustic experience. In the evenings we made a fire in the fireplace (the weather was cool), cooked dinner (the kitchen is well outfitted with utensils, pots, and pans), and played board games. Colleen was a thoughtful host. She texted us before coming by and offered suggestions for good beaches and hikes nearby--we followed them and loved them all.
We stayed 6 days at the Ivory Thistle Cottage and it had been an extraordinary holiday. This is really a very special house, full of charm and the owner has made it a real little heaven. Everything was perfect: very well equipped, perfectly clean, very comfortable beds, etc. Just trust the photos, they show exactly what the house looks like.
Ivory Thistle was a wonderful location, ideal to relax a few days in the middle of a demanding road trip through Canada. During our stay, it happened to rain a lot. No problem, even when it rains, the view when sitting on the porch is nice. Moverover, the kitchen equipment is outstanding (never had better pans and knives in a accommodation rental - so all culinary interested travellers: set this cottage on your short list)- and the cosy atmosphere of the living room. In all, one really notices the love Colleen has put into this place.
Contact with Colleen during stay happened mostly by texting. Face to Face contact was very pleasant, she is a wonderful host.
During the our trip, we stayed at six different commercial accomodations (next to some family visits). This one was our best experience and by far the best value for money.
Please note, that, with the exception of the city of Nelson, this accomodation is quite remote from other sights. However, this cottage combined with the Highway 3A drive along the east shore of Kootenay lake, is worth the detour alone in a West Canada trip
The Ivory Thistle Cottage is undoubtedly a sweet mecca. The space is charming in it's design and the aesthetic, decorative details lend themselves to the overall experience of the cottage. The calming vibes leave you feeling relaxed and coaxed into a serene state of gratitude and awe of the specatacularness that is Nelson, BC. The Ivory Thistle is a treasure and those who have the opportunity to bask in it's gentle spirit will long to return as soon as you have left.
My family and I had a lovely time at the Ivory Thistle Cottage. We were enchanted by the beautiful cob house decorated in French Provincial style. Everything was provided down to the smallest detail including raspberries for our breakfast in the morning. Colleen was a friendly host who respected our privacy and made us feel very comfortable. We would love to come back to Ivory Thistle Cottage and would recommend it to anyone.
We had a great stay at the cottage. Nelson is such a beautiful town; I hate spoil such a well kept secret but I highly recommend a stay at Colleen's cabin. Super clean and very cozy.
We had a lovely stay at Ivory Thistle Cottage. The cottage is fully equipped and truly feels like a home away from home. Colleen thinks of every last detail and was always quick to respond to any questions we had. We'll for sure be back!
We thoroughly enjoyed the Ivory Thistle Cottage. Colleen has done a fantastic job of furnishing and decorating this adorable house.
My wife, brother, sister-in-law and I stayed for two nights on the BC Family Day long weekend with the intention of skiing Whitewater. Our trip coincided with the tail-end of a weeks-long dry spell in BC, so the skiing was not fantastic. As a result, we spent a lot of time cooking and hanging out in the cottage. What a treat! We lit a fire each morning with the plentiful kindling and wood supply, and again in the evening. We cooked two breakfasts and two dinners in the kitchen, which included all the necessary tools.
A nice big reading chair near the fire is one thing that would have improved my lazy weekend experience. The sitting nook gets a little uncomfortable after your third cup of coffee! And the bed in the smaller bedroom, charming as it is, is shorter than six feet forcing medium to tall folks to an angle. It didn't bother me, but it might others.
But really this place is all about the little details. My wife is an apparel designer and took photos for inspiration. It has a real Provence feel to it. Rustic hay-bail walls, heritage windows and doors, heated slate tiles and natural wood floor boards milled from a tree in the yard...it's just oozing with charm, but not in a way that sacrifices comfort or liveability.
And then there's Colleen. She lives in a smaller house near the cottage on the same property and is very welcoming and friendly without crowding your space. She said all we had to do was yell if we needed anything, but we didn't. There was a bag of locally roasted coffee beans and a welcome note on the table when we arrived. We bumped into each other a few times coming and going but never felt..supervised, so to speak... She offered advice and was an all around pleasure to deal with.
When we stayed Colleen was still working on completing the top floor of the cottage. When it's done, I plan to return to show others this gem in the Kootenays.
The Ivory Thistle Cottage is the most adorable and quaint place I have ever had the pleasure of staying at! Pictures do this charmer no justice. It is filled with wonderful details and surrounded by the most beautiful scenery. It was very, very clean. The beds were very comfortable, the FEATHER DUVETS heavenly, and we took advantage of the wood burning fireplace, and lit it every night. Colleen had a big bunch of kindling and paper and wood chopped up for us upon arrival. I literally took like 50 photos of just the little house, I fell so madly in love with it! Colleen was a gracious, friendly host, and even left us a letter and some local fresh roasted coffee as a welcome gift! She dropped by to meet us before we left town, and I am so glad that we met her!
I have only good memories of the Ivory Thistle Cottage, and I recommend this place to ANYBODY!
I will definitely be returning.
Colleen and Fannuel were very nice and discrete hosts.
We barely saw them, and unfortunately, did not have enough time to chase them a bit more! But when we saw them, they were very kind and polite.
They maintained the place very well and were friendly.
We hope they had a good stay and wish the best future!
