This experience was really, REALLY bad. It was difficult communicating with her the days before our arrival - her voice mail wasn't accepting messages and it was only the day before our arrival that she communicated and to tell us that the walls n the living room needed plastering.
KITCHEN: There was only one mug - no glasses, cups or saucers - for both of us. The fridge had not been cleaned and was filled with rotting food. A kitchen drawer was stuck outside its cabinet and lay on top of the counter.
GROUND FLOOR: Numerous electrical fixtures were left uncovered. The bricks and wood in the living room were exposed, and a municipal construction permit was posted on the front window, meaning that this was an approved construction zone, meaning that the place, legally, should never have been rented. No adequate furniture in the living room, making it uninhabitable.
BATHROOM: Functional and clean, but the sink clogged up each time I shaved.
BEDROOMS: Only overhead lighting in the bedrooms; no night tables. In one bedroom, the bed was a mattress on the floor.
The Wifi connection was, at best, feeble.
The place was so disgusting that we were obliged to eat out all the time, and deal with work-related emails outside the house; we spent all but sleeping hours at our conference.
We are demanding at least a 50% refund.
In short, a catastrophe. Avoid at all cost, unless you're a masochist.
We came in really late, as our flight was delayed, and connected with Jenny at about 2am. The home has a state of the art washer and dryer, and a great water filtration system. However, the description is missing vital information, and the amenities listed are inaccurate/missing. Upon walking in, you will notice that the house is under some major repair/reconstruction. (We have pictures of this). Torn paneling, from floor to ceiling. Holes in the ceiling, and in the hardwood floors. Exposed wiring. Cardboard covering openings on the floor (unsafe & dangerous to walk on). Windows upstairs propped up by wooden stakes as they slam shut on their own (almost hit my hand). The linens, and bath towels were dusty, musty and unwashed (we had to launder them ourselves, as well as vacuum the dirty carpet). 1 tea cup was found and no glasses or microwave or tea pot to make coffee or tea. No heat source, and no instructions on how to use it, just an excuse of, "oh, well it's been warm, so we haven't had to use it." We looked around for a unit, but were never able to locate one. Also, there was no wireless internet or information on how to access it, if there was one. While this house has a lot of character and mass potential, it needs a lot of TLC before it should be rented. (Our humble opinion)!
Update: Since i wrote this review, the host text messaged me after being MIA, and said if i wrote a "truthful" review of the place, she would do the same for me, and I encouraged her to be honest. Aside than coming in really late due to our delay, she asked us to meet her at her place to pick up keys, as she was too inebriated to drive to the location. She even forgot the address, so we had to google it and have her point it out! The place was left in better condition than how we found it! We laundered the towels and told her all she had to do was put them in the dryer, since we were leaving to our next destination. We made the beds, put the curtain missing from one room up, returned the stakes on the windows as we found them, and made sure everything looked nicer than how we found it. Had there been a broom to clean up the broken planter and dirt on the floor we walked into, we would have picked that up as well. She hasn't mentioned the renovations in the house under the description, because she claims them as only being "minor," and says we are being picky, and called us names. She never apologized, and only made excuses that "it's good enough, and other people think it's fine." Her behavior is frankly inhospitable, selfish & inconsiderate. Airbnb was great, refunded me (even though i didn't ask for it), and I wanted to share the truth with others.
Had this cute little house all to myself. Great deal for the area. Location is very convenient to all of the points of interest.
Jenny was very sweet and checked on me several times to make sure I was OK even though she was going through a rough period, having incurred a bad bike accident that day.
Can highly recommend these accommodations.
