I was born in Cuba, raised in Florida, moved to Costa Rica in 1997, love to read, travel, grow stuff to cook it and eat it, surf the Net, opened Vida Tropical in 1999, have great people helping: Isabel, my manager for 6 years, is from Colombia, married to Norman, New Yorker from Colombian parents, he owns Jalapeño Central Tex Mex Restaurant in Alajuela. Their son is Nico, born in Costa Rica. Sylvia, from Costa Rica, has been our housekeeper and cook for 10 years. Adilio (Pilo) is also Costa Rican and is there covering late arrivals (after 8) and early departures (from 3 to 7 AM), I'm there only part of the time, the rest I spend now in my new place in Playa Carrillo. We all enjoy meeting the great variety of guests from all over the world. We have one of the world's best breakfasts at both places, with 4 or 5 types of fresh fruit, orange juice, high altitude coffee and assorted teas, white and brown sugar and milk, corn flakes and granola, several kinds of bread for toast, several kinds of homemade jams and jellies, eggs any style, poached, sunny side up, over easy, scrambled, omelettes, frittatas, your choice of plain or with smoked cheese, garlic, onions, green pepper, tomatoes, smoked ham or country sausage, French toast and pancakes with or without fruit or chocolate chips, honey, syrup and Nutella. Include also if you wish a serving of our own version of Gallo Pinto, a mix of rice and beans seasoned with diced veggies and our secret mix of spices, Balsamic vinegar and Lizano sauce, the Costa Rican version of Worcestershire sauce, mighty tasty stuff.
