In Summary, Shelley and Manuel are amazing. Their home is beautiful and is located a 5 minute walk from one of the best beaches in Barbados. They work really hard to make their guests have a memorable experience. They should have a badge that says Best Hosts Ever! We entered as their guests but we left feeling like family.
Shelley and Manuel made our vacation one to remember. I was on vacation with my boyfriend and from the very beginning through our communication I knew we were staying at the right place. Shelley greeted us out front and we immediately felt like we were part of her family. She showed us the ropes and suggested we immediately go to the beach to see the sunset. She even had dinner waiting for us when we returned. We later met Manuel and we talked about so many things. We found out that they used to live a few blocks from where we currently live in NYC. They shared with many amazing stories about their time in various places around the world.
On one of our days, Shelley took us on a tour around the entire Island. The price was much better than any of the others we found and being with Shelley was priceless. She showed us places that are dear to her heart and everyone in Barbados knows her! I really do not think you could find a better tour. It was genuine and catered to the things we wanted to do. Shelley also took us to eat a great lunch right on the coast.
On our final day, we went with Shelley to the market, we met some more of their friends and family and were able to purchase some yummy food. My boyfriend was even able to cook a treat for Shelley and Manuel. Their home has such good energy and is full of love.
We had a really early flight and Manuel drove us to the airport. I mean words cannot describe what a blessing they are. Thanks so much Shelley and Manuel. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Very courteous, friendly and hosts.
Interior of the house is spacious, and comfortable. Everything you need for comfort and utility is there - not new, but in good working condition. Kitchen is kept in a clean state, food stashes are well-partitioned. All doors have locks. Hosts have dogs, but they are kept outside (friendly little fellows).
The property itself sits in a rougher neighborhood 10 minutes away from downtown, and 1 minute away from the beach (by foot). Location itself is very, very convenient - everything on the island is within reach. Bus stop and car rental is across the street, downtown is a short walk away, primary beach is across the street. Neighborhood might look a little bit rough, but we had no problems whatsoever - friendly local people.
Overall, very positive experience.
The only negative is not really anything to do with hosts, but overall for the entire island - mosquitoes. The property has mosquito nets over the beds, but it does not really help. You still end up bitten all over. Bring repellent, anti-itch cream, and healing cream.
On behalf of myself and Mariya, we would like to thank the hosts for a wonderful time.
'Supportive, caring, enthusiastic and flexible': We loved staying at Dunloe Cottage; Shelley and Manny were warm and genuine and very knowledgeable about local amenities and culture. Without being intrusive, they really made us feel like they cared about our welfare, always willing to go the extra mile when we needed it. We had a wonderful day out with Shelley visiting island beauty spots, really benefitting from her local knowledge. Our room and patio, as well as the use of shared areas of the house, meant we had plenty of space, much more than you would get in the average hotel room. We also liked the plentiful storage spaces, hooks and rails in our room. The spacious (spotless) kitchen was also a joy to use. We loved the location: near Bridgetown, near the most fantastic beaches and in a real local neighbourhood location rather than a tourist ghetto, with good bus and minibus services.
Rachel and Manuel were very welcoming, and their home is lovely. They provided dinner the night that I arrived, and gave good advice about where to eat, buy groceries, and anything I was interested in.
We had an awesome time here!
If you want the short version:
Yes, it looks like the images.
Yes, they have a net above the bed if you'd like to use it and two fans so we weren't hot at all. We only used one fan for the majority of the time.
Yes, they have a safe in the room.
Yes, I would recommend this room =)
If you want the long version:
I came with one of my friends for a week long holiday and we had a fabulous time.
They were so nice and so helpful! Definitely an awesome team of hosts! They gave us really great recommendations for places to check out and how to get around. They were there if we had questions but also left us alone when we were doing our own thing.
They have two dogs (who I love so much I wanted to take them back home with me!) and this awesome bookshelf with plenty to read on the beach. The location was great because it was set back enough for a quiet night in but at the same time, the bus stop was right at the end of their street so it was super easy to get around and the beach was minutes away.
We stayed three nights in Rachels apartment and felt most welcome. She also pre-cooked a nice dinner for us upon arrival and gave us a cheap lift to the airport when we left. The apartment is simple but sufficient. The beach is close-by and just wonderful. You can even go swimming with the turtles without renting a boat there. Great location, also Bridgetown centre is in walking distance! We only did not feel very safe walking back home in the night as the neighbourhood can get rough.
We stayed three nights with Shelley and Manuel in their Upstairs Studio Appartment. And we felt very welcome. They are genuine nice people who care about their guests. They take their time to inform you, chat with you or go out with you, as long as their own agenda permits of course. Shelley took us e.g. to the local market, dropped us of at a restaurant, we had a daytrip with her around the island and Manuel took us to the airport early in the morning. The location is perfect, the beach is at walking distance, as is the centre of Bridgetown. The neighbourhood is not a problem as other reviews stated; we walked there several times and never felt unsafe. The room upstairs is all you need, with a shower and a patio with a small kitchen. A very nice Bajan place to stay, I can recommand this to everyone.
We are a group of five who visited Barbados to escape the Scottish cold. For the price we paid, we could not have expected anything more - in fact our expectations were exceeded in all cases.
A beautiful traditional home, with lots of space for all. The bedrooms are comfy, and all come with a fan and moskito net. Given this is a traditional Barbadian property there is a lot of shade and grassy areas around the property. There is a huge kitchen with any utensil you may need and two outside seating areas plus two indoor dining tables, there is ample space. The villa was spotlessly clean and welcoming throughout, with towels and essentials provided.
Rachael (Shelly) and Manuel were the perfect hosts. We were greeted with a home cooked dinner for all five, complimentary on arrival. They are genuinely hospitable and a wealth of information. From any request such as a dinner reservation, beach recommendation, they are there with local knowledge to help, which is so important on this beautiful island. Further, they will provide breakfast at Barbados $10 (which is delicious and reasonable) and dinner at BAR$ 20 I believe should you require, although we enjoyed cooking for ourselves which was no problem. Shelly happily took us to the local fish market and knew the best market men to speak to for a good deal - she only charges BBD$30 for a car trip such as this. Shelly really became 'Mum2' of our holiday, it was always a pleasure to see her and Manuel in the morning, and they are a local and brilliant highlight to any visit to this island.
We felt safe and welcome. You are a 10min walk to Bridgetown for any essentials (inc. Jordan's supermarket which is very reasonable), a 4 min walk to Carlisle Bay Beach, a 10 min walk to another lovely beach, 20 min drive from the airport, we found it absolutely perfect - not to mention Jenny's Bar at the bottom of the lane which is so hospitable, local and reasonable. We much preferred this area having travelled to the West Coast.
In summary, a fantastic, spacious, clean and good value accommodation with utterly lovely, down to earth and welcoming hosts. If you are expecting a five star hotel for this price, this isn't what you're after and this probably explains the odd negative review from people like a certain French man! But we all felt more comfortable and at home here than at any five star hotel - do it the real Barbadian way and give it a try. Then have fun on the beach telling people in the hotels how much you paid! ;)
Thanks Shelly and Manuel - until next time

Rachel hat uns immer gute Tips gegeben, was Strände, Restaurants, Sehenswürdigkeiten etc. anbelangt.
