I stayed in Cris's apartment for 12 days. It is a great place with lots of sunshine
flowing through the apartment during the day. It is at a great location - 5 minutes to the next larger grocery store and Lincoln Blvd which has very good bus connections.
About 1 km from the beach and main street with all its shops and restaurants.
there is also a nice live music place called Trip within walking distance.
Walking over to Santa Monica with even more shopping and dining takes you 20 minutes.
Cris was the best host I ever had - very responsive and helpful with all problems that visitors may have.
I really recommend this apartment.
I went to raw food school in Santa Monica, me and my family rented this apartment for 2 months we were really happy with it and to be so close to the center, the beach and the shops the apartment is very well located. Cris also had a bike for me to go to school with, there is a table outside for nice days. The kitchen is fully equipped with a nice gas stove. When ever we needed something Cris was really kind to always accommodate it. I highly recommend it.
Loved staying in this character suite! It's extremely cute and cozy. The kitchenette and full sized fridge was definitely nice to have. There is a large closet in the kitchen that is hard to see in the photos, the extra storage space was great. Lots of street parking, wifi was quick, the mattress was comfy, Cris and his family were very friendly and hospitable. It's a safe and quiet neighbourhood, I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to spend time in Venice and Santa Monica. I had access to a vehicle, without one it would have been a little trickier to get around although the bus stop isn't far and it's only a 15 minute bike ride to the beach.
This is a great hide-away in LA. I had a great week thanks to Cris and his lovely wife. Thank you!
Cris' guest house is a nice place to stay - centrally located, on a street with plenty of parking, where it's quiet and easy to find. If you're a night owl, you might want to bring a small flashlight for the walk from the sidewalk back to the house, parts are dark.
The downstairs area has a mirrored closet with hangers, a breeze box fan, and a well stocked small kitchen complete with refrigerator/freezer, microwave, coffee pot, toaster, two burner cooktop, and a small oven. He even provides a few cooking pans, silverware, and glassware. There is no seating area downstairs, so plan to spend your time while there upstairs.
The loft area is quite large and has a desk and chair, an iron and small ironing board, a heater, a lamp, and a bed. There's a window right over the bed for those who like fresh air while they sleep.
Cris was great with communication - after my rental request was accepted we texted to communicate.
Two things, make sure you check out how the front gate locks before you take leave, it's challenging to figure out in the dark. Second, as this isn't a hotel, remember to bring your own bar soap. Cris does provide towels, hand cleaner, lotion and there was even shampoo/conditioner in the shower. Oh, no bathtub if that's a deal breaker for you.
I really enjoyed staying at this place and will plan on doing so again in the future.
Cris' place was a wonderful find! Clean, quiet, and uncluttered: a perfect sanctuary from the bustle of the city. Highly recommended.
Cris is a very gracious host. I had a very enjoyable ad peace stay at the Guesthouse in Mar Vista. The Guesthouse is near bus route and I had an easy time getting around. I hope to stay again on my next visit to LA.
This was a very good place for us to stay. Clean, quiet and a very comfortable bed, lots of hot water, too. Close to Venice and freeway entrances. We enjoyed this little hide-away.
Great experience! Cris is an excellent host, easiest check in and out, extremely flexible. The studio is lovely, has everything you might need (even a fully functional kitchen we used quite a bit) and the location is wonderful (four blocks from a supermarket, pharmacy, etc.). We had a car (strongly recommend to rent one when in LA) so can't speak about access to public transportation, but staying in Santa Monica if you have a car is ideal to visit LA. It is quiet and safe, the drive to the Third Street Promenade and the Pier is about 10 minutes from Cris' studio, and you can do all the shopping dinning you might want there. Overall, I would definitely stay there again if I go back to LA/Santa Monica. I wish Cris had a place in every city I visit!
1. The owner. Our communication with Cris was excellent before our trip. Although he was out of town during our stay (we were there over Christmas), we were in touch with each other a few times via email about touristy things. His brother lives nearby and was accessible to us if we had needed assistance (we didn’t). Cris arranged for a second bicycle for us to use, which was nice. After a long flight, we appreciated the cheese, bread, fruit and coffee that Cris left for us in the kitchen.
2. The apartment. There was ample, easy parking, and the neighborhood was quiet. We felt safe and had two keys – one locked an outside gate, and the other was for the apartment. The kitchen was very functional for us (we cooked a lot). The appliances seemed relatively new. The bed was very comfortable, and the shower pressure was good. There is an apartment directly above, but we only heard people one day, and it was just normal noise – nothing bothersome.
3. The location. I am so glad we stayed in Santa Monica. A great little city…nice parks, nearby canyon hikes, the beach (of course), cute shops, very friendly people, easy to bicycle around, a great independent movie theatre, and the fun Santa Monica Pier. An easy bike ride to Venice Beach and Marina Del Ray. It’s also a convenient location for hopping on to Interstate 10 and the Pacific Coast Hwy – a short drive to the Staples Center in L.A., Getty Museum, Studio City, and Malibu. We also took a day trip to Santa Barbara.
