My life is pretty much devoted to travel. I work in the travel industry, moderate a major online travel forum ((website hidden)), and take literally every opportunity to see new places and experience new things. The world is so full of amazing adventures, and I want to experience them all--whether it's exploring America's national parks, road-tripping around Newfoundland and Labrador, getting lost in a tiny rural Alaskan village, mining for opals in the Australian Outback, getting involved in a public workers' labor dispute in Greece, or waking up at 3am for sushi in Japan, I've never ceased to be amazed at what the world has to offer.
I travel about 100,000 miles a year, mostly for pleasure--I'm very grateful to have a job that I can literally take anywhere I go, which allows me the freedom to live the globe-trotting life I've always dreamed of. It's hard to pick a favorite place--I've been to about 50 countries, and every one of them holds a special memory. If I had to pick, though, it'd be a tough choice between a few: Australia for the relaxed, "no worries" vibe, Bavaria with its beauty and my generous friends, Spain for the culture and excitement, and Switzerland for the sheer majesty of nature. Also, having pretty recently moved from Anchorage, Alaska to the East Coast of the U.S., I'm enjoying having easy access to such amazing destinations as DC, Philadelphia, and the ever-amazing New York.
I'm pretty low-key as a guest. I don't need to be entertained at all, although chatting with locals is always a great way to get an insight into the local's way of life. A bed and wifi is all I need...although great food nearby is always a very welcome plus!
I'm always on the lookout for experiencing authentic, local culture. Hope to see you around your or my neck of the woods!
