Had a great 3 days on Ruth's houseboat. It's in a fantastic position - great for walking to central London and close to the lovely Kings Road which is full of amazing restaurants. It was good to sit out on deck on a sunny Sunday afternoon reading the papers and watching the world go by. Ruth was a great host and we had everything we needed although any longer and we might have missed a television!
Our stay on Ruth's river houseboat was thoroughly enjoyable. We were welcomed on board by Ruth who showed us around and made us feel very welcome. In addition to providing cooking utensils and crockery, she had kindly left us a stock of basics: bread, cheese, hummus, milk and tea and coffee and some cooking herbs and condiments which all proved very useful during our week. Bed linen and towels were also provided. The boat was immaculately clean and comfortable, and unexpectedly large inside and the provision of table and chairs on deck meant we could also eat outside and enjoy looking up river to Battersea Bridge and watching the passing boats and river wildlife. The houseboat provided a tranquil oasis in the heart of the busy city. We loved experiencing the tidal flow of the river as the boat floated with the incoming tide and then settled again on the flats as it left. We were walking the Thames River Path from Hampton Court to Greenwich in daily sections and we found transport links from the boat to the different starting points were good.
Sloane Square is within half an hour walking distance. The bus service from nearby Battersea Bridge is excellent and makes access to rail at Clapham Junction and underground at Sloan Square very easy and the River Bus Boat Service also provides a commuter service from Albert Bridge which is within easy walking distance of the boat. For a great holiday with a difference I totally recommend Ruth's river houseboat. We are certainly planning another visit.
My wife and I were fortunate to spend the first warm weekend of Spring on Ruth's delightful houseboat. Our train getting to London had a breakdown but Ruth was a great host and stayed well beyond our agreed time to greet us and check us in. Everything on the boat worked well and the space is large enough that it didn't feel at all cramped. The view from the bow is outstanding and the surrounding neighborhood is great for walking, particularly along the Thames Walk and in Battersea Park across the river. I was concerned about traffic noise from Cheyne Walk behind the boat but the main bedroom is in the front and noise was not an issue. I highly recommend staying on Ruth's boat as an alternative to a same-old, same-old hotel experience on your next trip to London.
The reservation was canceled 10 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
I loved staying on Ruth's houseboat, it was everything I was looking for in an 'alternative to a hotel' sort of way. It was close to the King's Road and bus routes to South London and to wake up to gentle rocking when the tide was in was quite something. It wasn't the warmest place to be in a dreary London January and I would have loved a shower but that would certainly not put me off coming back.
Ruth is a great host and the boat was a wonderful place to stay. I'd recommend it to anyone staying in London and wishing to stay somewhere different. It was excellent.
Ruth was great, and so was this amazing boat-- I am recommending to lots of friends if they need a central and affordable base in London. Unbeatable to wake up looking onto the river. Great decor and style. thoroughly recommended.
Ruth was the perfect Host. I enquired late the night before I was due to stay and with quick comunication I'd book onto this beautiful house boat for one night.
Easy to find, great location just off Battersea bridge, on a main bus route and easy to hail a cab...Perfect! Just a 5/10 min walk on The Kings Road where an abundance of bars and resturants made dining easy. Also, 5 mins walk to Battersea park which is a beautiful way to spend an afternoon.
Wonderful Cabin on a clean and tidy/ beautiful boat...
Can't wait to come back
We had a delayed flight from Edinburgh. Ruth stayed late to welcome us. She had the boat ready and welcoming. During the week I had some questions which Ruth dealt with in a very helpful way. It was a novel experience to wake up and see Father Thames sweeping past. It was an added dimension to our London visit.
We arrived late because our flight was delayed. Ruth was very understanding and made us feel welcome. Everything was ready for us with beds made etc.
The houseboat is accurately described in the listing. It was fun staying on the river and great to see the dawn break over the water. The houseboat was very clean and tidy but also homely because Ruth has left some nice ornaments.
It made an unusual and interesting place to stay.
great dealing with Ruth, totally recommended guest!
I didn't meet Ruth personally, but my mother - that was at the BnB at my place - told me she is a fantastic girl, very nice and amazing. I can say that, at her departure, i founded the room perfect as i leaved it, so i can say she is also clean and respectful. What a pity don't have known her.
Ruth, it was great having you! Would have you back anytime :) :) :)
It was a pleasure hosting Ruth and her sister during their stay here in New Orleans. They are both terribly sweet and charming, and I wish I could have gotten to know them better. They took great care of my house (super clean!) and kitty and are welcome back anytime. Safe traveling...or you can take a more permanent vacation here in the city ;)
Sweet sweet Ruth, what a special treat it was to be graced with her lovely presence. She is an all-around breathtaking beauty, inside and out, who proved to be the perfect guest, the kind that one would cheerfully welcome into their home time and time again. It was truly a pleasure, everyone would be so blessed to have her.
Ruth and her lovely sister were delightful! I was hopeful that they would move to New Orleans. We could only be so lucky! Come back any time Ruth and best wishes.
Ruth and her sister were fabulous guest and it was a pleasure to host them. They were both very friendly and sweet and got along well with all the neighbors. They left my place super clean and tidy, I would highly recommend them to stay at any other Airbnb place.
Ruth and her sister were such an absolute delight to host!! kind, dear, charming... really good , quality people! certainly clean and courteous and fulfilled all the necessary, basic requirements of being a good guest, but really, I feel like I lucked out with them. On this site, you never know who you are going to get in your home, usually a courteous guest at best, & I've been blessed with all my guests thus far. with Ruth & Ali, I actually got to partake in their adventure as one of their travel friends. That person you meet on the train with whom you have a real connection and validation that stays with you forever, even if you never see them again? that was me. & really, how special is that? It gets no better. To travelers everywhere, happy trails!
