Our first Airbnb experience probably couldn't be better than this. Brian showed us the apartment & made us feel home from Day 1, knowing we were new to the Country. He ensured the apartment was spotlessly clean & filled with household stuff we might need during our stay.
Regular, Clear Communication is his USP. All our texts & emails were immediately addressed by Brian and his property manager.
We found the apartment exactly the way it's been described on the listing. Spacious, innovatively decorated, pretty well stocked in the kitchen, comfortable study desk & couch.
The condo building was also well maintained. And we had friendly neighbors.
Location was phenomenal. The best groceries, multi-cultural cuisine, Chicago Public Library, Cta buses & 'L' train all are a short walk away.
Our host, his beautifully designed home, the lovely location & his property manager made it an experience we shall always cherish. And we really appreciate the friendship we have now with Brian.
Brian was a very friendly, relaxed, and responsive host that made my 31 day stay better than expected. The unit was exactly as described. Full kitchen, plenty of living space, plus the unit is on the top floor of the building so you don't have to worry about stomping feet above you. Overall the building is very quite and people seemed friendly. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
The neighborhood has plenty to offer. Lots of good restaurants, and bars. Be sure to check out Broadway Antique Market and Ethiopian Diamond both just North of the unit. The CTA station is only two blocks away and the trains come frequently.
Only thing the unit could use is a TV, but the internet is sufficiently fast to stream Netflix in HD, so that wasn't much of an issue. Also, the unit is heated by radiators which I don't think you can control, and the unit can get a little hot in the winter so be sure to open some windows.
As I said, Brian and the unit were great!
Great location; quiet; stylish and a terrific host. We arrived quite late the first night of Thanksgiving week but were met by a friend of the host and received a tour of the apartment. We also received text check-ins from the host a couple of times to make sure everything was OK. Everything was great except for a slow drain in the bathroom tub, a slow drain in the kitchen and a non-functional garbage disposal--however we went to work the first day and soon had all three repaired with minor effort. Brian was so kind to allow us to check in early that we felt we should help him while there. We cooked our family Thanksgiving dinner in the kitchen and everything turned out great. We would absolutely stay again and would recommend his home to anyone. Thank you Brian.
It didn't take us long to fall in love with this apartment and the beautiful neighborhood! My husband and I stay here for 3 months in summer and throughly enjoyed our time here. We liked being just a few blocks from the beach, and within walking distance to many delicious restaurants (Our favorites were Dak, Le Pita, Patio Beef, and Lickety Split)
My husband to the El to downtown, about 40 minutes away. We preferred staying in Edgewater compared to downtown, because it was a little quieter and felt more homey. And there's always parking! A huge bonus in Chicago.
Brian's apartment is ideal for long term guests, or even a weekend getaway. We love Brian's choice in decor and the quality of the pieces in the apartment. Much classier than your standard hotel room.
I highly recommend this listing and would stay there again if we get the chance!
My wife and I stayed a week in Brian's cozy pad this April, and it was great! Our arrangements with Brian went flawlessly, and we enjoyed meeting Zack, who takes care of the apartment when Brian is out-of-town, and who was most helpful.
As to apartment specifics, I can only confirm the positive comments of my fellow reviewers. If anything, Brian has significantly upgraded the furnishings since he posted his pictures and descriptions. His sense of aesthetics remains as brilliant as those pictures suggest, and there is now nothing unfinished about the apartment at all. The three-floor walkup might challenge some, but it was no problem for us, a nice light workout at the beginning and end of each day, and certainly no worse that the stairs at the nearby CTA Red Line elevated station.
In any case, the real selling point of this apartment is its location in Edgewater Glen, an area easily as nice as more well-known - and typically far more expensive and crowded - Chicago neighborhoods. I lived here many years ago, and it has kept all its best features, and added several more. The well-maintained housing stock, including Brian's building, consists primarily of gracious early 1900s apartments on tree-lined streets, while the commercial streets teem with cool ethnic restaurants and curio shops, many concentrated around the several CTA stops nearby. This is all less than 30 minutes from either downtown or the north shore suburbs. Famously hip Andersonville is easy walking distance and several uncrowded lake beaches also beckon just t few blocks away, a major boon at least during the warmer months.
We particularly liked the following local eateries: Indie's for sushi, Metropolis for coffee, Pasteur for high-end Vietnamese, Tank for Pan-Asian, and Lickity-Split for ice-cream and desserts.
I just stayed at Brian's condo for 2 months while I was in town for work and LOVED IT.
The apartment is on the top floor up 3 flights of easy stairs. The building is well-maintained and quiet – I think I only saw other residents in person a handful of times. Otherwise my only interaction was seeing everyone's winter boots outside their doors.
The pictures do a great job of conveying what a beautiful space Brian and his designer are creating. The aesthetic definitely makes you feel like you're home, and gives tasteful splashes of color and decor without ever crossing the line into "too much." Furniture is all high-end and good quality (think CB2, Crate & Barrel). The bed is COMFY and there is a ton of space in the closet and dresser. The kitchen has pretty much everything you need to cook up a storm. The living room gets great light and the sofa is also sufficiently large enough to sleep on. Linens, towels, it's all there. And cheap laundry is in the basement if you need it.
It's a short walk (about 2 1/2 blocks) to the Thorndale 'L' station on the Red Line. Trains come frequently, and will get you to the Loop in about 30 minutes. And the CTA has live tracking for all trains and busses, which is super helpful.
The immediate neighborhood is very residential, quiet and tree-lined – the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown. A couple blocks East is N. Broadway, which hosts a slew of local businesses and restaurants (Father and Son Barbershop is fantastic!), a CVS, Walgreens, Cheetah Gym, brand-new LA Fitness (opened the week I left) and a Whole Foods that has just been announced to open in 2015. A short walk or bus ride down Clark (to the West) is Andersonville, where you'll find more cute restaurants than you'll even know what to do with.
On top of all of this, Brian is an amazing and gracious host. The day of my arrival, he picked me up downtown, citing that it was too cold for me to attempt to deal with the train with all of my luggage. There was a welcome basket of goodies from Trader Joe's waiting - he showed me the ins and outs of the place, and left me to my own devices. We interacted a few times over the course of my stay when he was in town making improvements to the apartment for the better enjoyment of future guests. At all times, he was courteous, communicative, and flexible. You could not ask for a better host.
If I ever find myself back in Chicago, I definitely know where I'll be staying!
The condo is just as described. Well equipped including full kitchen! And a great location. 2 blocks from the L red line which runs straight into the city every 5-8 minutes. Trip takes about 20-25. I really enjoyed my stay which was 10 nights. There is so much to see in Chicago I feel I only scratched the surface. I didn't meet Brian but I communicated with he and his friend and my questions were answered within minutes. Excellent communicators and I really enjoyed my stay.
Got there at night and Brian's mate let me in to the apartment. Answered all questions and was happy to let us contact him in case anything was wrong. Brian did too.
While it's still being decorated, the apartment was completely tidy and cozy. I'm still shocked at how large the place was. I'd stay there again if I'm ever in the area for sure. I felt at home which is rare in a hotel room. This was my first time using airbnb so I was skeptical. Not anymore!
Less than a 5 minute walk to the Thorndale CTA stop and a grocery store for supplies or your morning Starbucks. It was a pleasure to blend in with the locals and Edgewater is a beautiful area.
Thanks again to Brian.
It was our first time using AirBnB and it was a great experience. Everything worked out well and Brian was extremely helpful and communicative. The apartment is in a very family friendly neighbourhood with many playgrounds and the beach nearby. All you need is within walking distance, including a large supermarket. It doesn't have a washer/dryer in the apartment, but in the basement, and it seems we were the only ones using it, as it was always available.
We had a great stay at Brian's apartment in Edgewater. It's exactly like the pictures and has everything you need for a comfy stay. Edgewater is a lovely residential neighbourhood by the lake and is an easy journey to downtown via the 147 bus or the red line. We also enjoyed many local restaurants and hanging out on the local beach. Good times. Brian was a perfect host who arranged for a trouble free check in despite our late arrival, and was easy to contact via email with any questions we had but who otherwise left us alone to do our thing. Will definitely be back!
Brian is a really nice and personable guy. He left the bathroom spotless, as well as the bedroom. He kept great communication before and during his stay.
Perfect guest! stayed in good communicaton and kept the room very clean. Super self reliant. A hosts ideal guest. welcome back any time
Brian and his family were super nice people. The brothers met up and rode their bikes to the coast and mom came from home and drove here to spend time with her sons. Such a nice family bond. They were very interested in things here. It was great to spend time talking with all of them. I enjoyed talking with another Airbnb host as well , asking each other questions only another host could answer. Brian was super good with communication and they left everything in order....perfect guests. I would highly recommend them!

Brian was a great guest. Friendly and polite, and he left the room fairly clean. I'd definitely host him again.
Brian was a guest very punctual and super friendly. Complied with all the rules that are normally applied to all guests.
Jeison, amigo de Brian, se alojó en casa sólo por una noche pero resultó encantador. Muy amable y respetuoso.
Brian was a great guest and enjoyed the Island. He was out early everyday exploring - even hike to the summit of Mauna Kea (14,000ft) no easy task! He was very quite and respectful of the studio and neighbors. I hope he comes back and explores more of the Island! He is welcome any time.
Brian is a excelent person, a discret and nice guest, he just staied two days with us, but we had a good time and could share about his experiences and ours as travellers. We hope that his stay in Medellin will be enjoyable and that he will improove his yet good spanish...
Brian was great at getting in touch with me to keep me posted about arrival as well as departure. They were pretty quiet so hopefully they were out on the town enjoying what Portland has to offer! I would gladly host Brian again!
