I don't normally slammed people, but Eddie earned this one fair and square. I am not a liar. The house WAS NOT CLEAN upon check in, and I have dated pictures to prove it. Airbnb policy stated that issues with the place should be addressed upon check in, but Eddie left a key under the door and texted me the day following (after it was too late to address anything per Airbnb policy) to see how everything was. What was I supposed to say? It was too late for a refund or adjustment at that point or to find another place to stay for a full month that short of notice. To those interested in WHY I moved out with "no notice", please note that I had actually paid Eddie rent for the next month two days early because of my home hunting situation, and HE KEPT MY MONEY!!!! The day after I'd paid him, the neighbors children threw trash in the yard and at the house. I contacted him via email and we talked on the phone that night about it. I told him that I felt unsafe and wanted to leave. We also discussed a refund. In attempt to be a responsible renter, I let him know-- after all, I am responsible for damages, right? Originally, he stated he'd come over the next day and "calm everyone down." I came to him for help and support-- after all, it is his house, and I'm responsible for it while staying there. When he showed up the next day, he cited my being harrassed by neighbors as a "personal" issue. I am telecommuter and keep to myself. I had had no previous interactions with these people but had noticed that trash kept appearing in the yard. I moved out because I felt unsafe and threatened-- especially after I'd approached one of the parents to no avail and seeing that Eddie didn't want to "ruin" his outstanding relationships with his neighbors by simply asking them to have their children show respect for others. After all, he knew them personally, and the only attention I got was in the form of trash thrown in the yard and at the house. I've rented guesthouses and houses all around the country over the past five years and have never experienced anything like this before. This was my first time to rent using Airbnb, but rest assured that I will not use Airbnb again.
Good luck to those of you who do. I'm moving on.
