I don't think I could say enough wonderful things about this place. My boyfriend and I decided to stay here on a whim, seriously only because the place we wanted to stay wasn't available for our entire trip and I had a good feeling about the Mariposario. I was right!
First of all, air conditioning. Awesome. The rooms are simple, but more than enough. Second, access to the waterfall. So easy, it's almost cheating. Third, incredible staff. All friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. Super cool people. Then, THE BEER. After spending a month and a half in Costa Rica working on my grad school fieldwork, I was so grateful for non-pilsner beer, as much as I love a cold Pilsen. The cream ale was my favorite. Last but not least, the food. Truly incredible and both of our favorites in Montezuma, which is saying something considering we spent 6 days there and ate out for nearly every meal. We even walked up the steep hills after moving hotels, just to eat here again! Delicious free breakfast too, which changes daily and never failed to impress.
In a nutshell, this place would be perfect if it were a *little* closer to town/the beach. But that being said, I still wish we'd stayed here longer!
Lovely place. Great people. Good wifi. Close to the beach and the waterfalls with a car. The butterfly garden is very sweet
Overall, we had a very nice time at the Butterfly B&B. The place was clean, the room was well equipped with amenities and AC and the breakfasts were wonderful. We were disappointed however that the listing said there would be a kitchen but in reality the kitchen is not really available to guests (just a very small amount of fridge space). Overall I recommend the B&B and make sure to get a tour of the butterfly garden (free for guests) while you are there.
Our (email hidden) and Butterfly Garden was wonderful. Everyone was very helpful and kind to us. They helped us plan our zip lining, ATVs and our boat taxi. It was very very helpful and great that everyone was willing to help us out for whatever we needed. The room was nice and had air conditioner , great restaurant inside and wonderful cooks and breakfast and dinner! The city of Montezuma was great experience and was quiet , nice people and gorgeous beaches. Our favorite was the Playa Grande since it was more secluded.
A very nice place to be. In the centre of the junge, with a bar looking over/in to it. Very nice crew, they can help you planning a tour. Its located on walking distance of the town center. The rooms are not big, but it's enough, airco is great and the bathroom is also fine. We spend a lot of time in the bar, drinking there homebrewed beer. The included breakfast was perfect.
Lovely place, very friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant is amazing, we couldn't help but eat there every night, the food was so good. They also have there own home brewed beer. All in all our stay was wonderful, we would definitely recommend to friends and would stay there again.
Sehr nette und offene Leute, die uns geduldig und hilfsbereit mit Tipps und guter Laune begleitet haben. Das essen im neuen Restaurant ist frisch und lecker. Gute Musik! Idyllischer schmetterlingsgarten neben der hotelartigen Unterkunft.
This is the second review I am writing because we liked it so much that we returned for a second week in our same trip! We felt so welcomed and enjoyed the warmth and care of the staff here. It is a place that is bubbling with new ideas and an openness is explain their wealth of knowledge on all subjects relating to the environment from butterflies to scorpians to craft beer. We had the pleasure of sharing our music twice for small live concerts and that too was very enjoyable.
We enjoyed staying at Mariposario, the room was clean and comfortable. Also very good breakfast and Ryan makes himself very respectable quality beers. I recommend it a lot !
Thank you guys !

Prior to arriving, the communication with the host was very efficient with a fast response time. Directions and descriptions were very clear. Upon arrival my friend and I were welcomed by a very friendly girl who we later learned was volunteering there. She was very informative and knowledgeable about the area and answered all of our many questions. They were not kidding about the steep hill leading up to their driveway, but taxis were very reasonably priced to and from the main part of town.
The room was small but all we needed. Clean with a great air conditioner! Breakfast there was amazing! Everything was so tasty and fresh. The owners wife helped us the first morning and again, was very informative about the property and the area. She told us about the butterfly garden, which was very breathtaking. She encouraged us to go that morning because we might be able to catch a butterfly emerging, and sure enough we did! Josh, one of the owners was very nice as well and again, very informative and helpful. I definitely plan to return here on future trips to Montezuma!
They brew their own beer! It is delicious! You must try it while you are there! The cream ale was our favorite!
Terrific couple to spend time with. Really enjoyed sharing stories about our two countries. If you happen to have a chance to share some time with them, don't miss the opportunity. Great travellers.
