Dang and his sister were very helpful and responded diligently to all my inquiries. The apartment has been recently renovated and is conform to the pictures. However, the building itself is a bit run down and there's a major construction site just in front of the building. As a consequence, access to the entrance may be difficult, dust is everywhere and during the day, the noise can be overwhelming. Especially since the windows in the room have fixed blinders which means that you have to leave the windows open if you want to have any daylight coming inside. So, if like me, you plan to spend some time inside for work you have to be prepared to do so in the dark or in the noise and dust coming from the site. As an added bonus the next apartment was also being renovated so there was even more noise. I couldn't stay in such an environment and Dang gracefully accepted to cancel my stay and refund me. Hopefully the construction work outside will end but until then this is hardly a "little serene retreat". It will probably, however, be one of the best place to stay in CBD once everything is done. The location is ideal and the construction site is meant to become a walking street so no noisy cars or motorbikes. Also, if you plan to stay away all day to visit Saigon then that may not be that important since the work starts late in the morning and finish around 6pm.
Great Stay. A building with lots of character, cute apartment with a nice retro feel. A nice host, Dang, who answers immediately to any query you might have :-)
a good place, easy to find, got free upgrade to a suit with kitchen and living room
Our stay here was nice. The room was great, but the location wasn't optimal for access to District 1 where most touristy things are. You basically have to get a taxi there each time which can take a little while depending on traffic. The road it is on is very busy. The staff were nice and helpful, though and we had a good stay overall.
It's an adorable and charming little hotel situated in the middle of CMT8. The exterior and interior is pretty much as shown in the photos. In fact, I was looking for a few days holiday around the SE Asia region(I live in Singapore), but I was undecided between Vietnam and Laos until I found this place. Love the architectural style. Dang and his staff are very helpful and friendly, even recommending me places to visit in HCMC and teaching me a how to pronounce place names and a few Vietnamese words so that I can get by!
As another one of the reviewers mentioned, wasn't too keen on the traffic noise, but seeing what HCMC was like, I'd say it's very hard to avoid and for the price this is excellent value. I'd recommend
this place to stay for anyone who wants to visit HCMC.
Well, it's not a home stay its a hotel / apartment business location in district 3. Some rooms have a kitchen some not. Also IMHO BnB stands for bed & breakfast and getting a good breakfast, this is hard to get if you cannot deal with noodle soup in the morning. Also the location is very noisy do the main road traffic with the Vietnamese costumed using of car or motorbike horn. Otherwise value for money is fair if you get the room with kitchen as picture posted.
Our room was very clean (not quite as impressive as what was shown in the pictures, but still nice). The staff were excellent - friendly and helpful at all times. The area is OK, and easy to get to now that the road along the canal has opened up (so you don't have to use CMT8 to get up and down from D1).
My girlfriend and I stayed at Dang's place in January, 2014. We had a room on the 4th floor. The rooms are spacious and clean and have their own kitchen area. The bed was comfortable and the shower was powerful and hot throughout the day. There was also very little street noise and this seems to be a rare commodity in Saigon. We had a TV and decent WiFi. Considering the price, I can highly recommend this place. We'd be happy to stay again in the future.
I was in Saigon to produce a corporate video and stayed here in a private & clean room with the basic necessities which made my stay comfortable. Dang has been a very nice host who has allowed me to use another one of his rooms on 2 occasions as the setting for my video shoot. There was however construction going on at the building while I'm here, which was really the main inconvenience since I'll usually stay in to work and the builders will start from 7am and work throughout the day.
